Henry De Bromhead Cheltenham Day 1 Entries: It isn't just Honeysuckle to get excited about

Henry de Bromhead is likely to be sending out the shortest priced favourite on Day 1 of the 2022 Cheltenham Festival but he also has three other horses entered on Tuesday. Let’s take a look at his runners for the Opening Day of the four-day spectacular…

I don’t think you need to have an in-depth knowledge of Horse Racing to have heard the name Honeysuckle. This undefeated eight-year-old has been a star ever since she first set foot on the track and the longest starting price has been 6/4. This daughter of top level Stakes winner Sulamani has been odds-on in two of her previous ten outings so it will come as no surprise that she is going to be an extremely short price once again.
It was here just last year in the same race that she gave punters value, going off at 11/10 in the Champion Hurdle. A year previously at Cheltenham, it was a 9/4 price in the ares’ Hurdle that would have given her backers joy. This year though, Festival goers won’t be getting that sort of price and the latest SP is 8/13. Undoubtedly Henry De Bromhead’s best chance of a win on Day 1. It would be an acca buster should she fail to win for the third straight year in Gloucestershire.
Just 40 minutes though and he’ll be sending out another favourite. This time it will be Telmesomethinggirl in the Mares’ Hurdle. This seven-year-old hasn’t won in her past three but it was at the 2022 Cheltenham Festival that this De Bromhead runner made her name - winning the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle. At 11/4, punters are thinking the Rachel Blackmore/Henry De Bromhead double in Honeysuckle/Telmesomethinggirl girl could very much be on.
Earlier in the day, the 49 year-old trainer has two decent priced runners in the Arkle where Coeur Sublime and Magic Daze are both set to take to the track in a field of 11. Our own Billy Grimshaw has time for the former when he wrote up his Arkle Tips earlier today. He brings with him good handicap form but the step up is significant. Neither are going to be heavily fancied but if either comes in, you can bet your bottom dollar that punters will pile in on his two more fancied horses later in the day.
