Tuesday's Most Popular Naps
Roger Varian's AZURE ANGEL is the most Napped horse today with five votes in the 18:30 at Newcastle. As is often the case with runners from the Varian stable, this filly is lightly raced and must overcome a seven month absence here if she is to win. She does at least come in on the back of a win last time out at Chelmsford those seven months ago, and a three pound rise may not be enough to stop her if she is in her best form.
LADY BALKO has four votes as the best bet of the day, although at 4/6 she is not the sort of price everyone will be getting stuck into. David Pipe's charge is the choice of West Country as the best bet of the day, who sits in second, and it is easy to see why on the back of her easy success at Hereford last week by fourteen lengths. She should relish the extra distance and a defeat would be a shock. Just one horse has attracted three votes in the Naps table, with the 15:55 at Market Rasen seeing ROYALE DANCE well supported. She has recently switched from Dan Skelton to Noel Williams and won as she liked on yard debut, picking up a six pound penalty for this race. It may stop her, but one suspects she will be there or thereabouts.
Follow The Leaders
Spotlight are still leading the way atop the Naps table today, with their pick at 14:25 at Market Rasen BREAKDANCE KID looking like one of the most progressive horses running anywhere today. The horse was a fair hurdler but looked better than that on chase debut last time out winning here in facile fashion at the same distance. The five pound rise could still underestimate him and he deservedly heads the market.
West Country are in second place and have sided with a Taunton runner as the best bet, specifically LADY BALKO in the 16:45 contest. David Pipe's charge will have to contend with a big weight to carry, but she could hardly have been more impressive at Warwick just a week ago when bolting in by fourteen lengths. She is clearly in fine fettle and on breeding and run style looks the type to improve for this step up in distance, so it is clear to see why she has seen some early market support.
Finally, The Punt in third are taking NOT AT PRESENT in the Taunton 15:10 as their Nap of the day. In just a five runner race, this is one of the outsiders for Ben Pauling and Beau Morgan but is still only 6/1 at the time of writing. He has been very fragile and on return from a long lay-off took a heavy fall last time out, but The Punt must trust the Pauling applying cheekpieces will make all the difference.
- Spotlight - Breakdance Kid - 14:25 Market Rasen - P&L: £18.71
- West Country - Lady Balko - 16:45 Taunton - P&L: £8.59
- The Punt - Not At Present - 15:10 Taunton - P&L: £6.63
