Paul Nicholls will unleash another strong battalion for the King George VI Chase at Kempton Park on Boxing Day as the master of Ditcheat attempts to win the Grade 1 showpiece for a record-breaking 13th time, and he will saddle a star triumvirate for the 2022 renewal on December 26. Spearheading the team from Somerset will be the reigning Charlie Hall Chase winner Bravemansgame, who launched into the Cheltenham Gold Cup picture with a stunning Wetherby win on his comeback run and the seven-year-old is currently heading the betting.
An impressive seven-and-a-half length winner of the Kauto Star Novices' Chase last season, Bravemansgame will return to the scene of one of his biggest success and he has to be a leading contender for glory. Adding to team Nicholls is recent Haydock winner Hitman, who has shaped like this sort of test could see him at his best and he will be one of the fancied runners lining up, while completing the Nicholls trio will be the 2020 winner Frodon. A marvellous weight-carrying performance in the Badger Ales at Wincanton saw the legendary former Ryanair Chase winner bound to glory there, but he failed to figure in the Betfair Chase last time out, but a return to Kempton should see him sparkle.
Arguably the biggest danger to Bravemansgame could be the Venetia Williams-trained L'Homme Presse, who was a sparkling winner of the Brown Advisory Novices' Chase at the Cheltenham Festival last season and he returned with a stunning display to win the Rehearsal Chase at Newcastle. Giving lumps of weight away that day, L'Homme Presse was another to push himself into the Gold Cup picture and he will be challenging Bravemansgame for favouritism.

Henry De Bromhead's Envoi Allen showed his capabilities when bounding to glory in the Ladbrokes Champion Chase at Down Royal and the enigmatic Irish raider will fly the flag for the Emerald Isle in this year's event, but whether he can build on that success is up for question. There's no doubt he has the talents and this is far from a vintage renewal of the King George, but he has struggled to gain consistency in recent campaigns, so will have his work cut out.
Eleven lengths behind Protektorat in the Betfair Chase, Eldorado Allen has been entered by Joe Tizzard for this event and is available at double-figured odds, while the classy pair of Royale Pagaille and Ahoy Senor add more depth to the race, but both have struggled to produce their best form recently.
Completing the nine-strong field is Millers Bank, who is likely to be the outsider of the field in what should be a fabulous renewal on Boxing Day.
