Stewards' Cup Runners: Confirmed Runners and Racecard

We take an in-depth look at all the runners for the 2020 Stewards' Cup, which will take place on the final day of Glorious Goodwood on Saturday afternoon...
1. Summerghand (Danny Tudhope/David O'Meara)
Fourth in the Stewards' Cup 12 months ago, David O'Meara's Summerghand showed a zest for fiercely competitive handicaps when finishing second in the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot in mid-June. He failed to land a blow in Group 3 company last time out, so a return to handicap company should aid his chances, despite having the burden of top weight.
2. Gulliver (Angus Villiers/David O'Meara)
Fourth in the Wokingham, David O'Meara's charge then followed that up with a fine second placed finish in a competitive Curragh sprint handicap, and this former Sprint Trophy winner at York will aim to shine once again and get his head in front for the first time this season.
3. Tinto (Jim Crowley/Amanda Perrett)
A shock 40/1 winner of a Newmarket handicap at the beginning of this season, Tinto has failed to build on that success and was last seen finishing way down the field in the Group 3 Hackwood Stakes at Newbury last time out.
4. Danzeno (Alistair Rawlinson/Mick Appleby)
Veteran sprinter that has a Group success to his name from earlier in his career, Danzeno was ninth in the Wokingham before putting up a better effort next time out when third at Newmarket, but could prove vulnerable to a younger, improving rival.
5. Hey Jonesy (Kevin Stott/Kevin Ryan)
A long winless streak was ended when he stormed to victory in the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, but a rise back up in the weights will mean he has a tough assignment. However, heads to Goodwood in good heart and has to be respected.
6. Watan (Ryan Moore/Richard Hannon)
Spent last season running in some hot Group contests without success, but showed promise when second in a decent Newbury handicap last time out - where he was second to Stewards' Cup favourite Nahaarr - and runs off the same mark of 103 on Saturday.
7. Angel Alexander (Richard Kingscote/Tom Dascombe)
A surprise winner of the 2019 Ayr Gold Cup, Angel Alexander has found it tough to build on that success north of the border and was way out the back on his last outing in the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot.
8. Nahaarr (Tom Marquand/William Haggas)
Second in the Silver Wokingham, Nahaarr improved immeasurably last time out when cruising to victory in a decent Newbury handicap (beating Watan by two and a half lengths). Will need to defy a 7 lb rise, but going the right way and has to be a leading contender.
9. Mr Lupton (Connor Murtagh/Richard Fahey)
A Group 2 winner earlier in his career, Mr Lupton has failed to make the frame in his last seven outings, so while he is dangerously handicapped off 101 (3 lb lower than last outing) it's hard to assess his chances if he continues to misfire.
10. Meraas (Joe Fanning/Mark Johnston)
Three victories in his last four races has propelled Meraas up the ratings, and while he needs to defy a 6 lb hike for an impressive recent success at Musselbrugh, the Mark Johnston-trained raider is an upwardly mobile three-year-old and warrants respect.
11. Silent Echo (Harry Bentley/Simon Hodgson)
A fine win at Newmarket in early June booked his place in the Wokingham, where he was a creditable fifth. Switched to Simon Hodgson's yard, Silent Echo was last seen finishing fourth behind Nahaarr, so has form to turn around, but heads to Goodwood in fine fettle.
12. Aljady (Charles Bishop/Robert Cowell)
Wins at Haydock and Windsor have catapulted Aljady into the reckoning for this contest, but the Robert Cowell-trained sprinter will need to defy another 5 lb rise in the handicap, and could just find it tough off a mark of 98.
13. Barbill (John Egan/Mick Channon)
After a winless 2019, Barbill kicked off the new campaign in fine fashion by landing a decent Haydock handicap in June (beating Aljady). Upped 5 lb by the handicapper for that success, and this is a much deeper race on paper, so work to do to follow up that recent win.
14. Swindler (Louis Steward/Ed Walker)
Sent off favourite at Newmarket on his first outing this season, but could only finish fifth to Tinto, but will strip fitter for those exertions. With two wins and two seconds in seven career starts, the four-year-old is still open to improvement and has to be an each-way player.
15. Chairmanoftheboard (Rob Hornby/Mick Channon)
Followed up a win at Windsor by claiming victory at Newmarket in early July, Chairmanoftheboard is a four-year-old sparkling this season, but another 6 lb rise for that victory at HQ the Mick Channon-trained raider will need a huge career best.
16. Stone Of Destiny (Silvestre De Sousa/Andrew Balding)
Victorious in the Shergar Cup Dash last season, Andrew Balding's charge was another to feature in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot, but could only finish sixth. Down the field in a competitive Newmarket race last time out, so has work to do to land a blow here.
17. Louie De Palma (Hector Crouch/Clive Cox)
Has tasted victory once since July 2014, so is hard to fancy with any conviction, and was well beaten by Aljady at Windsor on his last outing, so faces an uphill test.
18. Lexington Dash (Thore Hammer Hansen/Richard Hannon)
Back-to-back wins at Newmarket in late June ignited Lexington Dash's season in fine style, but he was unable to land the hat-trick at HQ off a career high mark of 95. Handed another 2 lb rise for a fourth placed finish that day means Richard Hannon's raider has to improve to feature, but he does head to the south coast in decent form.
19. Kimifive (Cieren Fallon/Joesph Tuite)
Tenth in the 2019 Stewards' Cup, Kimifive put in a decent display when second to Barbill at Haydock two starts ago, but he failed to build on that effort when sixth at Newmarket last time out over seven furlongs. A return to six furlongs should see him in a better light, however, so is an interesting runner.
20. Open Wide (Pat Dobbs/Amanda Perrett)
A superb second in the 2019 Stewards' Cup, Open Wide hasn't tasted victory for over a year, and was last seen finishing comfortably behind Aljady at Windsor. A return to Goodwood could play to his strengths, as he shows he relishes these fiercely-contested tough handicaps.
21. Venturous (Kieran O'Neill/David Barron)
Unable to feature when down the field in a hugely competitive Ascot handicap last time out, Venturous has previously put up two decent efforts to finish second at Haydock and Newcastle, so a repeat of that run can give him each-way claims.
22. Teruntum Star (Jimmy Quinn/David Griffiths)
Last of 22 in the Wokingham Stakes, and has continued to find life tough in top notch sprint handicaps. A well beaten fifth in the Sky Bet Dash Handicap at York on his last start, so has an uphill test in this competitive renewal.
23. Brian The Snail (Megan Nicholls/Richard Fahey)
A narrow winner at Newcastle in June, but failed to follow that up off a 5 lb higher mark when third at Ripon in July, and running off the same mark of 90 again on Saturday then looks to have his work cut out, despite Megan Nicholls claiming 3 lb off his back.
24. Atalanta's Boy (Thomas Greatrex/David Menuisier)
Four wins in his last seven starts, David Menuisier's Atalanta's Boy has been rocketing up the handicap in recent months, and having won at Chelmsford City two starts ago and finishing second on his last start he is of interest. Upped 2 lb again to a mark of 88, he has the potential scope to improve further.
25. Wedding Date (Theodore Ladd/Richard Hannon)
Two second-placed finishes this season has shown Wedding Date is performing well for Richard Hannon this season, but while he will carry a featherweight in the Stewards' Cup, he needs a massive career best to land the spoils.
26. Concierge (Martin Dwyer/Michael Attwater)
A winner at Wolverhampton in February, but has failed to kick on since racing's resumption. Switched to Michael Attwater's yard, Concierge will line up as one of the outsiders and looks to face a stern assignment.
27. George Bowen (Paddy Mathers/Richard Fahey)
Well beaten in the 2019 Stewards' Cup, but showed signs of recapturing his best form when chasing home Summerghand at Pontefract earlier this season, and off a featherweight here could be one of those that figure prominently from the lower echelons of the handicap.
28. I Am A Dreamer (David Egan/Paul Midgley)
A winner at Ripon two starts ago, but failed to defy a 6 lb rise when well beaten at Ascot last time out, and it appears that this sort of high-class sprint handicap will be beyond his abilities at this stage of his career.
