The Weekend Wager: Tips from Newmarket, Haydock and Market Rasen this weekend

We return for another edition of The Weekend Wager and focus our attentions on three UK fixtures taking place on Saturday afternoon, and we have tips from day three of Newmarket's Cambridgeshire meeting, while we also pick out selections from Haydock Park and Market Rasen...
13:50 Newmarket - Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes
Some really exciting juveniles head to Newmarket on Saturday afternoon, and one of the standout ones is the Charlie Appleby-trained COROEBUS, who takes his chance in the Royal Lodge Stakes at 13:50. Mightily impressive when winning a novice stakes on debut at Newmarket over a mile, the son of Dubawi will return to Flat HQ on Saturday bidding for back-to-back wins.
Appleby must think a lot of the Godolphin raider as he sends him into Group 2 company on only his second start, but having proven he stays a mile, he is sure to improve immeasurably from that debut run, and can bound to glory here.
Andrew Balding's Masekela heads the betting, at the time of writing, but he was all out when winning a Listed event at Newbury last time out over seven furlongs, and while the second that day has gone on to win at Group 2 level, Masekela may not improve for a step up to a mile. Coroebus is certainly one that could be stepping up in trip in the future, and a fiercely run one mile event can play to his strengths and he can outclass his rivals, and his current price of 40/1 for next year's 2000 Guineas will plummet in the process.

14:40 Haydock - Heed Your Hunch At Betway Handicap
Some smart sprint handicappers take their chance in a hugely competitive 5f event at Haydock at 14:40 on Saturday afternoon, and the legendary Copper Knight will bid for another notable success when he takes his chance in what is a trappy betting heat. However, he failed to fire last time out, and it could be that he's in the handicapper's grip now, and it's worth looking elsewhere for a selection.
The one that jumps off the page is the Michael Dods-trained JAWWAAL, who has already got his head in front twice this season, and he's been running consistently off his new mark of 99, and if everything falls right for him then he can score. His last win came off a mark of 94, so he will need to produce a career best, but the six-year-old caught the eye when fourth behind the aforementioned Copper Knight and another of Saturday's rivals Mondammej, and he can reverse the form with that duo here.
Better off at the weights with that duo this time around, Jawwaal should be able to dispatch both Copper Knight and Mondammej with aplomb, and while Premier Power is another intriguing rival, it's the Dods-trained raider that can get his head in front on the line.

15:20 Market Rasen - Harvest Gold Handicap Chase
Olly Murphy's VINNIE'S GETAWAY ended last season in disappointing fashion, but roared back to form on his first run this summer when landing a Perth handicap hurdle by one-and-a-half lengths in July. He failed to kick on from that effort when upped 5lb for his next outing, as he could only finish fifth in an Uttoxeter event off a mark of 96.
Now, the seven-year-old is sent over fences for the first time in his career, as he lines up in the 15:20 at Market Rasen, but with a point win to his name he could well be capable of more over fences during the season.
Impressive Hexham winner Regaby has a lot of experience over fences, but failed to deliver off his new mark when pulling up at Worcester last time out, while the likes of the top-weighted More Buck's and last time out winner Railway Muice add more depth to the race. However, if Vinnie's Getaway can show his qualities over the larger obstacles in this near three-mile event then he can kick off his chasing career on a winning note, and it can be this new discipline that can see him deliver.

15:50 Haydock - GT Radial Tyres Handicap
Four career wins already on his CV, the Sir Mark Prescott-trained three-year-old Summer's Knight has to be regarded as a leading contender for the 15:50 at Haydock Park on Saturday, but he failed to land any sort of blow in the Melrose Handicap last time out, and it could be that his current mark of 88 is a little too high for him.
Tom Dascombe's Solent Gateway was a winner last time out at Chester, but he will have to contend with a 6lb rise for that success around the Roodee, and could be another that comes unstuck here. Looking elsewhere, the one that catches the eye is the Ian Williams-trained CARDANO, who kicked off the year with two impressive wins on Lingfield's all-weather, before struggling to get his head in front again.
Down the field off a mark of 100 in the Chester Cup back in May, Cardano has been slipping down the weights of late, and appeared to be recapturing his form when second at Doncaster off a mark of 96 a couple of weeks ago. He will line up off that same mark in Saturday's event, and with a trip appearing to bring the best out of him, then the five-year-old can duly record a third win of 2021 in this fascinating event.
