Today's Horse Racing Tips: Cometh the Nap
Yesterday’s selection, First Impression, led the field into the home straight before weakening out of contention as soon as the pace increased. Ground conditions may have been quicker than ideal for John Quinn’s runner, and it would be no surprise to see him go back up in trip now.
There is one bet for today’s racing at Redcar.

COMETH THE MAN (NAP – 1 point win bet at 5/1) should relish the step up to seven furlongs and can register a deserved first career success. Well beaten in four starts as a two-year-old, David O’Meara’s representative appears to have benefitted from being gelded over the winter and has been placed in three of his four races this year. Beaten by just a head at this course on his seasonal reappearance, he went on to finish second behind an impressive Clive Cox-trained filly at Bath (ahead of a subsequent winner) before once again making the frame on his next start.
His disappointing effort at Ripon 16 days ago (sent off as favourite) can be forgiven as it came on softer ground and in first-time cheekpieces. That headgear has been removed today and the faster conditions at Redcar should be ideal. He has been dropped 2lbs by the handicapper since that run to give him every chance on ratings.
All of his runs to date have been over sprint trips but there is plenty of stamina in his pedigree to suggest that this longer distance could bring about the necessary improvement. His dam was a winner over a mile and was Listed placed over 12-furlongs. He is also a half-brother to several winners over seven furlongs or further.
Trainer David O’Meara has sent out seven winners in the last fortnight and in form jockey Daniel Tudhope, who has been aboard for five of this horse’s eight races to date, is operating at a 32% strike-rate over the past 14 days.
Lead Story and Camerily Joe are next best but both may need softer ground.
