Today's Horse Racing Tips: Trying my luck at Leopardstown

It was all going wrong yesterday. Burmese Waltz failed to show anything in the Listed Kachy Stakes at Lingfield, Blakeney Point made a complete mess of the first obstacle and could never recover and then the well fancied Rockadenn ran off the course when leading the field in the Scottish Champion Chase. I then found out that my next best selection, The Ferry Master, had been pulled out of the Edinburgh National due to unsuitable ground.
All hopes therefore fell on Mighty Thunder, a 25/1 outsider that I felt would outrun his price. That he certainly did! Lucinda Russell’s progressive chaser was a 20-length winner of the gruelling staying contest and won it in the style of a very smart prospect over extreme trips. A 15p rule 4 deduction ate into some of my winnings, but I still celebrated the win to the extent that my neighbours felt the need to check that everything was ok. Fantastic!
It is another day of top-quality racing but with short-priced favourites in many of the contests, I have tackled the ultra-competitive E125,000 handicap at Leopardstown instead.

TREACYSENNISCORTHY (NAP – 1 point win bet at 13/2) is fancied to follow up his recent Cork win and record a third success over fences. This nine-year-old will be having just his seventh start over the larger obstacles today and there was much to like about his victory last time out. The winning margin would have been significantly greater than the eventual 4.75-lengths had he not made a mistake at the last fence, so he should still be competitive off this 12lb higher mark. The horse that finished second has since won to give the form a boost, and it is interesting that he is 66/1 for the Grand National.
Kevin Brouder, who has recorded impressive form figures of 11121 when riding this horse, is likely to make another bold bid from the front and the pair can put their rivals to the sword given the horse’s proven ability over further and on testing ground. Finally, it is worth noting that this Robert Widger-trained gelding is unbeaten in two previous visits to Leopardstown. They both came over hurdles but it is only just over a year ago since he beat Ronald Pump here and that horse has since gone on to be second in two Grade 1 contests.
Farclas and Braeside complete the shortlist.
