Horse Racing Tips: Two Horses Backed By Four Experts

Four tracks host racing this Thursday, with Irish action from Thurles producing arguably the most interesting races. The three British meetings take place at Chelmsford, Lingfield and Newcastle and here we take you through the day's most popular Naps, the picks of the most profitable tipsters, an eye-catching stat for the day and bring you a racing news round-up...

Thursday's Most Popular Naps
A couple of horses have been selected by four expert judges as their best bet of the day, with the first being the Gigginstown charge for Gordon Elliott and Jack Kennedy STAFFORDSHIRE KNOT. This horse was in the news of late in the dispersal sale from Caldwell Construction's group of horses, but Gordon Elliott was thrilled to keep hold of the smart youngster and Gigginstown could well now have a smart one on their hands. On pedigree he should improve for this step up in trip and he is definitely the one to beat, for all the second favourite is respected.
The other horse with four Nap votes is STAR MIND in the 17:30 at Newcastle, a three year old only handicap. He has won a maiden and a C&D handicap so far for his new yard at Jack Jones's, and although he has a four pound rise to contend with and may not get as easy a lead here as he did last time out, he looks progressive and should be in the mix. One horse has been supported by three expert as the Nap, COVER UP for the Gosdens in the 18:00 at Newcastle. The Exceed and Excel Godolphin gelding looks to have an outstanding chance on paper, with last season ending with a win and this season starting in the same manner over this C&D. He seems to have relished the switch to the all-weather and should be one of the bankers of the day.
Follow The Leaders
The Punt has closed the gap on West Country in second yesterday with a good win at decent odds, but both Racing Post outfits still trail in the wake of Spotlight who is nearly £7 clear at the top of the table. Spotlight head to Lingfield for today's best bet and like the look of MAJOR FORTUNE for Team Skelton in the 15:45, a handicap hurdle. He has been in fine form thus far this season, racking up a hat-trick with minimal fuss. The horse is penalised by seven pounds here but the easy manner of his victory over this course and distance last time out indicates it may take a much bigger penalty than that to stop him.
In the race preceding the Spotlight Nap, the West Country best bet will take their chance in the shape of ANNIE MAGIC in the Mares' Handicap Chase. Just four runners will contest this race and although it looks relatively competitive, Annie Magic holds the strongest claims and it is unsurprising she is the market leader. She looked rejuvenated on chase debut with cheekpieces, which are retained today, and a drop in trip should bring out more improvement in her. Finally, The Punt are waiting for 18:00 at Newcastle for their best bet and are siding with CLEARPOINT. This horse is a big price at the time of writing and is having his first run since switching from Charlie Fellowes to Simon Hodgson. He has been running respectably of late, finishing first, third and third in his last three runs, and this course clearly suits so he is certainly an interesting choice.
- Spotlight - Major Fortune - 15:45 Lingfield - P&L: £16.71
- West Country - Annie Magic - 15:15 Lingfield - P&L: £9.79
- The Punt - Clearpoint - 18:00 Newcastle - P&L: £9.13
Stats The Way We Like It
The Townend siblings Paul and Jody top the jockey course form table today, both riding at Thurles where they boast 40% and 37% win rates respectively. Both have decent chances to improve that record today on board Closutton inmates...
