Sam Brown maybe in the twilight in his career, but the 11-year-old is still a lightly-raced performer with only 17 career starts under Rules on his CV and the Anthony Honeyball-trained raider is set to have a crack at the Grand National for the first time in his career.
A former Grade 2-winning novice chaser, Sam Brown showed his class at the end of last season when he stormed to an impressive victory in the Grade 3 Betway Handicap Chase at Aintree's Grand National meeting and he will be looking to sparkle at the track again on April 15, but is available at big prices in the latest Grand National Odds.
Sent to Wetherby for the Charlie Hall Chase on his comeback run, Sam Brown ran a fine race to finish third behind King George VI Chase winner and Cheltenham Gold Cup runner-up Bravemansgame, but he failed to build on that effort when fifth of six in the Many Clouds Chase at Aintree on his second start this term.
Pulled up in the Grade 2 Denman Chase at Newbury two outings ago, he warmed up for the Grand National with a prep over hurdles, where he finished fifth of 13, but it's a return to fences that should see him in his best light. Arguably too high in the ratings at 159, Sam Brown will have a tough assignment on his hand and is unlikely to prove popular in the Grand National Tips, but he has shown on his day he can perform with credit in top notch company, so he will be hoping he can claim victory at the Grand National festival for a second year in a row.
