Roscommon racecourse held its first meeting in 1837, which was set up by the British military, who had a base in the town. Since then it has grown considerably and there have been regular meetings there since 1885.
Many feel that it is the course for future stars as trainers have sent their top youngsters to the track to use it as a stepping stone to bigger and better things later on in their careers.
Notable winners at the track include 1996 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Imperial Call and 1999 Ascot Gold Cup winner Enzeli, who won en route to staying glory at the Royal track.
A right-handed course that is one mile, two furlongs in distance has a tough finish with a steep incline leading up to the winning post.
The highlight of the season at Roscommon is the Grade 3 Kilbegnet Novices' Chase which attracts a quality field every year.
