About The Coventry Stakes
The Coventry Stakes is a Group 2 race run over six furlongs and is open to two-year-old horses, and is run on the opening day of Royal Ascot.
First held in 1890, the Coventry Stakes now attracts a plethora of exciting juveniles that possess a lot of speed, but can be horses that in the long run will go on to deliver at longer distances. Having been promoted to Group 2 status in 2004, the Coventry Stakes can often through up some notable winners, who go on to dominate in Group 1 races, so is a fascinating race awash with improvers, who are still relatively lightly-raced.
GSTAAD was a commanding winner and started a wonderful week for Aidan O'Brien juveniles in the Coventry, bolting up for Ryan Moore in commanding style.
