Dundalk racecourse is Ireland's first floodlit track which provides flat racing from an all-weather surface. Horse racing has taken place at Dundalk since the late 1800s but it was the turn of the century which saw the massive transformation take place.
Opened in August 2007 the floodlit all-weather track has allowed racing to take place in even the worse weather conditions. It is also the only racecourse that provides horse racing and greyhound action from the same venue.
The right-handed track is an oval shape and is around ten furlongs long, which also has a five furlong sprint track.
A notable race that takes place at Dundalk is the Group Three Diamond Stakes, which is currently part of the Breeders Cup Challenge.
