The highlight of every Cheltenham Festival is the Cheltenham Gold Cup, and this year it is all about the defending champion GALOPIN DES CHAMPS. Can he become a back to back Gold Cup winner for Willie Mullins, just as Al Boum Photo did a few years ago, or will the even money favourite be upset by a new challenger? FASTORSLOW has had his number twice in the last twelve months, but the suspicion is GDC was nowhere near his best. Perhaps GERRI COLOMBE can reverse Savills Chase form should the ground be heavy, but who knows. The list of latest entries for the Gold Cup was announced on January 2nd.
On the same day, two more of the biggest races will see initial entries confirmed. The Queen Mother Champion Chase and Ryanair Chase potential runners will be known. The Champion Chase looks set to see one of the blockbuster match-ups of the 2024 Festival, with an Arkle rematch between 2023 1-2 EL FABIOLO and JONBON. These two dominate the market and it'd be a surprise to see any other horse in the mix up the famous Cheltenham hill. The Ryanair looks more open, with BANBRIDGE recently taking favouritism with Allaho out through injury after an impressive win in the Silviniaco Conti Chase. Last year's winner ENVOI ALLEN must enter all calculations, while STAGE STAR - 2023 Turners winner - is not out of consideration.
The Champion Hurdle saw entrants inputted on January 9th, along with the Mares' Hurdle on the same day and the Stayers' Hurdle on the Thursday. The Champion Hurdle should be a case of the superstar CONSTITUTION HILL first and the rest nowhere, but the Mares' looks open for the taking this season. The Stayers' Hurdle looks one of the most competitive renewals in years, with TEAHUPOO heading the betting with stablemate IRISH POINT closely following behind. Both would be worthy winners.

On January 16th, the entries for the big four Novice Chases came through, with plenty of horses entered in multiple races. The Arkle looked to centre around MARINE NATIONALE, although his loss at the DRF has certainly muddied the water somewhat. Maybe IL ETAIT TEMPS his conqueror that day is being underestimated..
Willie Mullins and Paul Nicholls have the top two in the market for the three mile showpiece Brown Advisory Novices' Chase, with Mullins training FACT TO FILE (who could yet head for the Turners) and Nicholls handling STAY AWAY FAY - last year's Albert Bartlett winner. Plenty of other smart staying novices will give both a mighty race, but one that won't is FLOORING PORTER, a two time Stayers' Hurdle winner who was sent novice chasing but is now only entered in the 3m6f National Hunt Chase.
Come January 23rd, the entries for the Supreme, Ballymore, Triumph and Albert Bartlett will be in. This year the races all look compelling, with the likelihood being BALLYBURN will be in both the 2m and 2m5 race and leave punters none the wiser as to where Willie Mullins will send him. JERIKO DU REPONET looks to be taking the Shishkin route to the Supreme, while in the Albert Bartlett things look as murky as ever. The juveniles this year don't look a vintage bunch, but SIR GINO could well be a monster and is a short price for glory.

On February 13th, two of the Mare's races will have entries revealed. Both the Mares' Chase, for which DINOBLUE is a hot favourite, and the Mares' Novices' Hurdle, where BRIGHTERDAYSAHEAD and JADE DE GRUGY (with DYSART ENOS close behind) are battling it out for favouritism. The 20th of February is a huge day for those with fast fingers on our odds grids, as the handicap entries are released for the following races: the Ultima, Coral Cup, Boodles, Pertemps, Plate, Kim Muir, County Hurdle, Martin Pipe and the Grand Annual. Plenty of savvy punters will already have an idea in their head of who they think will be competitive in this race, so 20th February is a day to put those tweet notifications on!
The last batch of entries is on 27th February and sees the entries for the Champion Bumper, Cross-Country Chase and Hunters' Chase. The second race mentioned looks a corker in 2024, with Gordon Elliott's high class trio DELTA WORK, GALVIN and CONFLATED set to lock horns with former Gold Cup winner MINELLA INDO.
