First run in 1807, the Gold Cup is the feature race on day three, which is also Ladies Day and down the years it has been won by some of the finest stayers in training. What happened in the 2020 Gold Cup?
John Gosden's Stradivarius recorded a third victory in the Gold Cup, as the superstar stayer blitzed his rivals in an emphatic victory in the staying showpiece at the 2020 Royal Ascot extravaganza. Held off the pace by Frankie Dettori, it was Nayef Road that led the way for most of the contest, but in behind Stradivarius was tanking along and as soon as Dettori pushed the accelerator he picked up to saunter clear of Nayef Road, who gallantly stayed on for second place, while Cross Counter was best of the rest in third.
