Thurles racecourse has hosted race meetings since 1732 when a three-day festival took place at the County Tipperary course.
A dual purpose track Thurles has been used by several trainers as a warm-up for horses who are bound for the Cheltenham Festival or Punchestown Festival. Notable horses that have run at Thurles and gone on to much better things include Klairon Davis, who won the Arkle and Champion Chase at Cheltenham, whilst Native Upmanship featured here several times.
Throughout the year Thurles holds some top notch racing with the Kinloch Brae Chase being the biggest of the season. Other major races include the Coolmore EBF Mares Novices' Chase and the Michael Purcell Novices' Hurdle.
Thurles' stiff track is a right-handed oval course that is one mile, two furlongs long that holds a steep uphill finish.
