As the premier tourist destination in Ireland Killarney racecourse not only attracts a good local crowd the ambience at the track is enhanced by holidaymakers having a day at the races.
The first recorded meeting dates back to 1822, where races were shared out between two tracks, but in 1936 the current racecourse was opened and it has been hosting great horse racing action ever since.
Killarney racecourse comes to life in the Summer as they hold extensive meetings during May, July and August which attract a large number of people to the track. Their Blue Riband events usually happen in early August, with the Brandon Handicap Hurdle and Denny Handicap Chase being two competitive Grade C contests.
Killarney's left-handed oval track is around one mile, one furlong in length.
