Horse Racing Tips: Bay to defy top weight at Chepstow
We are treated to five horse racing fixtures in the UK & Ireland on Monday with the action all kicking off at Brighton at 13:00, while there's alternative afternoon racing at Chepstow. A trio of fixtures will take place late afternoon and go into the evening and Ballinrobe will start at 16:30, while Stratford (16:50) and Southwell (18:10) will conclude the day's racing. We pick out some of the most eye-catching tips of the day, and try to point you in the right direction of a winner...
The Charles Hills-trained Willoughby Bay was last seen struggling in a hugely competitive Goodwood handicap, but she will have her expectations lowered on Monday as she looks to defy top weight in Chepstow's 16:40 contest. Lining up off a mark of 74, she's been dropped 3lbs by the handicapper, so stands a terrific chance of getting her head in front, and she has caught the eye of our tipsters as three of them have napped the Hills raider. One of that trio tipping up the three-year-old is naps table leader Expert Eye, who heads into today's racing with a comfortable lead and sparkling profit of £42.36.
Second in the naps table is Garry Owen from the Daily Record who has a profit of £22.00, and that tipster, who is bidding to bridge the gap with Expert Eye has also picked out his nap of the day in the 16:40 contest at the Welsh track, as Owen opts to side with the Ali Stronge-trained Musical Mystery. Available at 9/4, at the time of writing, Musical Mystery has caught the eye of three tipsters today, and the three-year-old gelding will aim to build on a second placed finish at Leicester last time out.
Two other horses running on Monday have proven popular with our tipsters as the Roy Bowring-trained Back From Dubai, who is 9/2 for the 19:40 at Southwell has been napped by three tipsters, while the David O'Meara-trained Autumn Festival has also caught the eye of three tipsters and is a red-hot 10/11 favourite for the 14:25 at Chepstow.
Lambourn of the Racing Post was in superb tipping form over the weekend notching up back-to-back winners, and the red-hot tipster will attempt to make it three winning selections on the spin and Lambourn is backing the Archie Watson-trained Mighty Gurkha, who runs in the 13:50 at Chepstow. Winless in 13 outings, the four-year-old was last seen finishing second at Yarmouth, so if the gelding can build on that effort then the four-year-old could well return to winning ways here.
Punters looking to kick off the day on a winning note could follow the advice of Whistler from the Sunday Telegraph, who has napped the 11/4 shot Street Parade in the 13:00 at Brighton. The former course and distance winner was last seen finishing second at the south coast track, so the six-year-old has to be a major player in a competitive opener.
Other eye-catching naps on Monday include the 3/1 chance Punxsutawney Phil, who runs in the 17:20 at Stratford and is the best bet of Luke Tucker from the Cambridge Evening News, while Andrew Bladen from the Wolverhampton Express & Star heads across the Irish Sea to Ballinrobe and has napped the 6/1 shot Exit Poll in the 19:00 contest.
