Horse Racing Tips: Best Bets from Southwell and Chelmsford

There were five meetings scheduled to take place today, but with Jack Frost biting across the UK just two Thursday fixtures survive. Both come from the AW at Southwell and Chelmsford, and here we run through some of the most popular Naps while also providing a news round-up...

Thursday's Most Popular Naps
There is a decent spread of Naps today with action coming from just two courses. Thankfully the abandonments of today's meetings were confirmed early on Wednesday, so the experts have all had the chances to scour the surviving cards and pick a best bet. Two horses have been sided with by five experts and they are the two we shall focus on here, starting with DAAFY in the 18:00 contest at Southwell. Derek Shaw's charge is a four time winner over course and distance, so clearly loves it here, and at seven seems to still be running with all his old zest.
Just over a fortnight ago he was successful here in a similar race, and with just three more pounds to carry he looks to be in with an outstanding chance of glory. Templegate of The Sun is the highest profile of the quintet of tipsters to choose this as his best chance of a winner today. The other horse with five votes as the best bet of the day is KATS BOB, a runner for Iain Jardine in the 20:00 contest at Southwell.
His claims are painstakingly obvious and at 2/1 he looks a very fair price to back up a career best last time out, when winning over this C&D. The case is even more enticing when noticing the gelding has escaped any form of penalty for that win, and if he turns up again in the same form it is going to take a well handicapped horse to peg him back.
HorseRacing.Net Say: Both horses selected by five experts as the NAP hold strong claims, but Kats Bob in particular looks to have an outstanding chance of victory. A double on both picks at 2/1 could land a nice return on a low key day of racing."

Follow The Leaders
The Punt still tops the Naps table, but there has been a change in the order behind them and the team at Spotlight have overtaken Brian Flanagan into second place. Leading the way of the five that have picked KATS BOB is The Punt, who clearly believes the horse still has plenty in hand and is a gift of a price at 2/1 for Southwell success. Spotlight's Nap of the day won yesterday with ease at 10/11 and they look to continue the hot form with BOAFA BOY in the 15:05 at Chelmsford.
He makes his return after 75 days off and watching back his last run, to call him unlucky was an understatement. Stuart Williams' charge ran over six furlongs at Newmarket on heavy, which won't have suited particularly, and finished midfield in eighth. However, at a crucial stage when he was trying to make his challenge he was carried right by another runner which stopped all his momentum. On his best form he is on a good mark here and a big run is expected for a team that know how to win off a break.
Brian Flanagan is now in third place after Spotlight's success yesterday and the man from the Irish Daily Star has opted to back GOLD AURA in the 14:30 at Chelmsford for his Nap. The Golden Horn four year old looks to have a tough task on her hands giving lumps of weight away in this race, but she has some fair form in the book when on a going day. She is still a maiden but has been getting closer since joining Jack Jones' team two runs ago from Richard Hannon, and in a winnable looking race she has every chance.
- The Punt - Kats Bob - 18:00 Southwell - P&L: £18.87
- Spotlight - Boafa Boy - 15:05 Chelmsford - P&L: £13.51
- Brian Flanagan - Gold Aura - 14:30 Chelmsford - P&L: £13.36

Racing News Round-Up
- Stradivarius sires a filly - Legendary stayer on the flat Stradivarius has finally been retired to stud, and pictures of his gorgeous first foal have emerged on social media. The stunning filly looks a Group 1 winner in waiting!
- Nico De Boinville Back - Weather permitting, Nico De Boinville will return to the saddle tomorrow at Market Rasen. It is a superhuman effort for the Seven Barrows top rider to be back fit and firing just three weeks after breaking his collar bone!
- Love Envoi Plans Emerge - 2022 Mares Novices' Hurdle winner and 2023 Mares' Hurdle runner up Love Envoi looks set to head to Cheltenham in nine days time for the Unibet Hurdle. She has not hit the heights thus far this season, but Harry Fry's charge is high class and a decent run would see her shorten for the Mares' Hurdle of this season.
