Today's Most Popular Naps
Yesterday was a bit of a corker in the Naps table, with the three most popular picks all sailing home to mean profit aplenty for an army of the experts involved in the competition. Another day brings another opportunity for winners and a whopping SIX experts are in agreement that Gary Moore's red-hot favourite ISSAR D'AIRY in the 15:45 at Newbury is the day's best bet. Of the sextet, Lee Sobot of the Yorkshire Evening Post is the most profitable contestant this season in seventh place, and he has surely been drawn to the horse because of his smart win over C&D a month ago.
That run came on chase debut and off the back of an eight month break, so the expectation is Issar d'Airy will improve again here at Newbury. Niall Houlihan takes the ride and the youngster in this field at six looks the undisputed one to beat. Better ground than he raced on last time should be a bonus, too. A couple of other horses have been picked by three experts respectively as their Nap, with the first being IMPERIAL ALEX in the 14:45 at Leicester. Last time out he came clear with the eventual winner to finish a wide margin second on heavy ground, and although he is still winless over fences today certainly looks like the perfect opportunity and the fitting of first time cheekpieces should be noted heavily.
Finally, in the race before Issar d'Airy takes his chance we will see the other popular Nap of the day and that is BETWEEN WATERS for James Bowen and Nicky Henderson in the 15:10 at Newbury. This Mares' handicap hurdle looks competitive enough, but Between Waters has been improving of late and stepping into handicap company for the first time she could easily have a fair few pounds in hand.
Follow The Leaders
There was no change yesterday in the order of the top three in the Naps table, with no success for the leading trio or any of the chasing pack at big enough odds to usurp them. Today followers of Spotlight's best bet will have to wait for the penultimate race of the day o back the best bet, THE BELL CONDUCTOR in the 20:00 at Southwell. The horse looks a big price, albeit not on the showing from his last run when last in a handicap 42 days ago here. He has since moved yards and Spotlight must hope the change and the rest has sparked this three times C&D winner back to life.
Former leader The Punt has opted to go early and back a runner in the first at Newbury today, with NAJAVO INDY getting the nod. Tom Symonds' charge won a bumper here and ran with plenty of promise to finish second on heavy ground at Exeter prior to Christmas. He looks sure to still have bundles of improvement to come and looks the most likely winner here over two miles. Finally, The Irish Sun in third place have got a pick at Down Royal and they fancy ST DENIS'S WELL to score in the 15:30 race over two and a half miles. He bolted in at Navan just three days ago and is sent here clearly in fine fettle, so even with a seven pound penalty to contend with Jack Kennedy's mount should take a lot of pegging back here.
- Spotlight - The Bell Conductor - 20:00 Southwell - P&L: £15.71
- The Punt - Najavo Indy - 12:50 Newbury - P&L: £13.87
- The Irish Sun - St Denis's Well - 15:30 Down Royal - P&L: £11.07
How About Stat?
JACK KENNEDY is a man to fear when heading to Down Royal, with the top jockey boasting a stunning 44% strike-rate at the track. He has registered 25 wins from 57 runs and looks to have an outstanding chance of plundering at least a couple more prizes there today, with five rides and three being aboard favourites!

Racing News Round-Up
- Stacked Weekend Awaits - Racing fans were licking their lips at the potential of seeing some high class stars strut their stuff this weekend at both Cheltenham and Doncaster. It'd be wonderful to see 2023 Triumph Hurdle winner LOSSIEMOUTH reappear up in Yorkshire in their Grade 2 feature.
- Noble Yeats Back Over Hurdles - 2022 Grand National winner NOBLE YEATS is set to run over hurdles at Cheltenham on Saturday in the Cleeve. It would be some effort were he to win, but one suspects his wily trainer Emmet Mullins would be happy with a staying on fifth place to get him cherry ripe for a return to Aintree.
- Stay Away Fay In The Cotswold - Perhaps the most surprising entry on Trials Day is seeing 2023 Albert Bartlett winner Stay Away Fay confirmed to take on the older horses in the Cotswold Chase. He is a market leader for the Brown Advisory right now, but a commanding win could see connections tempted to send the novice for the Gold Cup a la Coneygree...
