Racing League Round Six Tips: Amir Kabir to strike at Newcastle

It's the final night of the Racing League at Newcastle on Thursday evening, and Team Thoroughbred head the team standings as the action heads to the north east. But, we focus our attentions on finding winners on the night, and we have three tips across the six-race card, which will provide some competitive action.

James Fanshawe's Second Slip has an excellent recent record at Newcastle, racking up a win and a second placed finish in his last two starts at the track, and there's no surprise to see him etched in as favourite, at the time of the writing, for the opening event at 18:05. However, he failed to score off a mark of 89 last time out and upped now to 90 he could be vulnerable to a rival, and the one worth backing is the Roger Charlton-trained Amir Kabir, who is a 15/2 chance at the moment.
Last seen competing in race twelve of the Racing League at Doncaster, Amir Kabir was an excellent third behind Moon Daisy and Vindolanda, and he will lock horns with that pair again on Thursday in this curtain-raiser. However, he's better off at the weights on this occasion, and having only been beaten a length that day it would be no shock to see him turn that form around.
He struggled to quicken at the business end of the race at Doncaster, but was staying on all the way to the line, so if there could be a quicker gallop in Thursday's 1m 4f 98y event then he could well do the business off an attractive looking mark of 83.

18:35 Newcastle - William Hill Lengthen Your Odds Racing League Race Thirty-Two Handicap
Hugo Palmer's Red October was a winner in the Racing League last week at Lingfield Park, but he will have to carry a penalty for that success in Race 32 at 18:35, so he may just struggle to double up in this 1m 2f 42y contest. Another pair of contenders that tasted victory last time out are Ace Rothstein and Rewired, and that pair head the betting at the moment, and they certainly warrant respect.
However,. the one that stands out is the Clive Cox-trained Tregony, who will line up off bottom weight here and if she can produce her best form then could prove to be too good for her rivals in this trappy event. A multiple winner this season, Cox's charge racked up four wins on the bounce from June 14th to August 2nd, which saw her handicap rating rise from the high 50s to the mid-70s. Unable to make it five wins on the bounce last time out at Nottingham, Tregony will look to recapture the winning thread here and a stronger gallop could see her at her best here.
She will benefit from having Saffie Osborne taking 5lb off her back here, so she looks extremely well handicapped, if she can produce her mid-season form, and she is worth backing at decent odds around 6/1.

Charlie Fellowes is bidding for a four-timer with the in-form Billhilly and there's no surprise to see that raider installed as a red-hot favourite for the 19:35 contest at Newcastle, but he looks awfully short in a race jam-packed with talent, and there could be some more eye-catching value elsewhere.
One that catches the eye is the William Knight-trained Eagle Creek, who was seen two starts ago at Newcastle running a fine race off a mark of 81, and it's that same figure he lines up off on Thursday night, and he's got every chance of hitting the frame once again, and available at double-figured odds he's the each-way value in the race.
Unable to land a blow on his last start at Lingfield, where he finished mid-division, Eagle Creek will look to be ridden more prominently from the outset, as he was left a lot to do in that Lingfield event. A return to Newcastle should be another positive for the seven-year-old whose last winning mark was 82, so he's well handicapped to go close, if he can click everything into gear.
