Cork Major Races
Formerly known as Mallow Racecourse the course is a circular flat right-handed track that is 10 furlongs in the inner circuit and 12 furlongs in the outer circuit. It holds flat racing and national hunt events all year round.
The course holds around 20 race meetings running from January to December. Principal meetings held here are the Noblesse Stakes with is a Group Three race for fillies and mares which is held in June there is also the Give Thanks Stakes also for fillies and mares held in August and the Paddypower.com Cork International which is held annually in November
In March 1983 the racecourse was used for an emergency landing for a private jet which landed safely. The airplane owners paid for a tarmac surface to enable the plane to take off several weeks later, the runway was then used for parking at the racecourse.
The top two trainers who are this course are David Wachman and Dermot Weld who both have stables just over an hours drive from Cork Racecourse. The top jockeys are this course are Wayne Lordan and champion flat jockey Pat Smullen.
