A spectacular winner of the Grade 1 Spring Juvenile Hurdle at Leopardstown as a four-year-old, A Wave Of The Sea will now look to land the biggest prize of all, the Grand National, but the Joseph O'Brien-trained raider is a fairly big price in the 2023 Grand National Odds for the Aintree showpiece.
Unplaced at the Cheltenham Festival in the Triumph Hurdle back in 2020, A Wave Of The Sea has been a regular over fences over the last few seasons and landed a notable prize at Leopardstown at 2021 when winning the Matheson Handicap Chase. It's been a rather different story this campaign as having fallen in the Galway Plate back in July the seven-year-old was then seen finishing sixth in the Kerry National at Listowel.
A creditable fourth in the Munster National at Limerick in October, he was next seen competing in the hugely competitive Troytown Handicap Chase at Navan, but he was pulled up. Unplaced in the Paddy Power Chase at Leopardstown over the Christmas period, he then improved when finishing third in another competitive Leopardstown handicap chase in February.
Unlikely to be popular in the Grand National Tips, A Wave Of The Sea was last seen pulling up in the Grand Annual Handicap Chase over two miles at the Cheltenham Festival, so it will be amazing to see him running over double that distance in the Grand National and it's going to be a tough ask for him to sparkle here.
