Beverley Bullet Tips: Classy speedster to bound to Listed victory

Clive Cox's Tis Marvellous will attempt to emulate the legendary sprinting duo of Chookie Heiton and Take Cover by winning back-to-back renewals of the Beverley Bullet on Saturday afternoon, but our man Steve Chambers is taking on the hot favourite with a classy sprinter. A stunning three-and-three-quarter length winner of this race 12 months ago, Tis Marvellous is a 7/2 favourite to land the spoils once again and if he can produce a similar display to last season then he's going to be extremely tough to beat. However, he has struggled for form this season, and unlike last season when he headed into the Bullet on the back of some fine wins, the eight-year-old was last seen finishing 10th in the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot.

There's no doubting that this contest will provide a much easier test, but he had previously finished down the field in the Group 2 Palace House Stakes at Newmarket, so the old timer does head into the event looking to recapture the winning thread and he looks short enough in a race jam-packed with quality sprinters.

An impressive winner at York at the start of the season in handicap company, Karl Burke's Korker failed to follow up in a hotly contested handicap at Royal Ascot, but the three-year-old put up a career best last time out when third in the Listed City Walls Stakes at York, and if he can replicate that display then the 5/1 about him has to be respected.

The Stuart Williams-trained Existent has been competing in tough races this season and was just behind Tis Marvellous in the King's Stand before he was last seen finishing ninth in the King George Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. A best-priced 8/1, at the time of writing, the Williams charge has often struggled to get his head in front in recent times, and could be another that just has to settle for minor honours here.

Robert Cowell is renowned for delivering the goods with sprinters and a fascinating contender he will unleash is ARECIBO, who looks hugely overpriced at the currently 9/1, and has to be a major contender, if producing his best form at the weekend. The seven-year-old hasn't got his head in front since May 2021, but he showed when second in the Group 2 Temple Stakes at Haydock Park earlier in the season that on his day he is a class act.

He's struggled to figure in recent times and was just behind Tis Marvellous and Existent in the King's Stand Stakes, while he finished seventh in the Coral Charge at Sandown Park in Group 3 company before fluffing his lines in the Shergar Cup Dash, when well backed. He missed the break that day at Ascot and found himself way back through the early stages, so was going to find it tough to play a starring role. But, he's shown he can throw in an impressive display when on a going day, so if he can maintain a strong position through the early stages then he could well come thundering home and at near double-figured odds he's the one to take the favourite on with.

Just edged out in a competitive handicap at York's Ebor Festival last time out, King Of Stars will aim to build on that effort, and heads to Yorkshire in fine fettle and has to be respected at 10/1, while Mondammej is another fast-finishing performer that can figure prominently when everything falls right and he's another worthy of a mention at 10/1.

Of the others, Kevin Ryan's three-year-old filly Alia Choice was a winner last time out at York, but this is a notable step up in class for her, and while she will receive weight from her rivals she will find it tough at 14/1, while the likes of Ainsdale and Burning Cash (both 16/1) will have to put in absolutely stonking performances to claim victory in a fascinating renewal.
