Brown Advisory Novices' Chase Tips: Check out Ed Quigley's 1-2-3 for the Cheltenham Grade 1
Our resident tipster Ed Quigley is back for day two of the Cheltenham Festival, and he has taken an in-depth look at the Brown Advisory Novices' Chase and has picked out his 1-2-3 for the Grade 1 novice chase on Wednesday afternoon...
We could be set for a fair amount of rain before, and during racing on Wednesday, but I think BRAVEMANSGAME has the required tools to jump his rivals ragged here, and looks a rock-solid favourite in my eyes. He looks one of the most natural novice chasers we have seen for years, and his ability to ping his obstacles and then get away from them in effortless fashion means I think he will just have too much up his sleeve for his rivals. His run as a novice hurdler last season in the Ballymore was excellent, and I think it is unfair that people are questioning his ability to handle the track - there is very limited evidence to suggest he doesn't 'act' at Prestbury Park. It is all about this special 7-year-old, and I think he will be tough to pass.
L'Homme Presse has stamina doubts, and I am still a bit surprised they aren't heading to the Turners, where I think a stiff 2m4f on the New Course would really suit him, despite the calibre of the opposition. Ahoy Senor was well beaten at Kempton behind Bravemansgame, and whilst the Sunbury venue arguably didn't play to the Lucinda Russell-trained gelding's strengths, I still think he is up against it to reverse the form with the Paul Nicholls star. Despite winning well at Wetherby last time out, Ahoy Senor still has the tendency to shift to his right at a few of his obstacles, and naturally won't be able to get away with such traits in this lofty company.
I think the biggest threat could come in the form of the Willie Mullins-trained Capodanno, In my view, he has been crying out for a proper test of stamina, and should thrive being upped in trip to three miles for the first time over fences. He looks like he will stay all day and should excel over this longer distance.
Of those at bigger prices, Threeunderthrufive has been in great form, and comes here instead of the National Hunt Chase, and Dusart looks a bit of a raw, loose cannon. He has lots of natural talent, and this left-handed galloping test will suit. However this does appear to be throwing him in the deep end and he might not have his arm bands.
