Chester May Meeting 2022 Day 2 Tips: Find our best bets for Thursday's action here

There's some competitive Flat action at Chester on day two of the May meeting, and our in-house tipster previews the racing on the Roodee here and picks out his best bets on Thursday's card...
13:30 Chester - Icm Stellar Sports Handicap
We kick off proceedings with a devilishly difficult 5f 15y conundrum to work out with the in-form Look Out Louis aiming to continue his excellent form, and he is currently heading the betting, at the time of writing. However, there could see some more attractive value elsewhere, and the one that stands out is MOKAATIL, who lines up for Ian Williams and the former Epsom Dash winner stands a huge chance if he can produce his best form here. Drawn in stall two here, he should have enough early to hold a prominent position, and having won at Epsom two starts ago, a repeat of that should see him on the vicinity. He's 6lbs higher here, and he failed to land a blow when third at Goodwood last time out, but the visor returns on Thursday's afternoon, which could aid his cause, and with form over six furlongs then he's sure to be running all the way to the line in a cracking contest.

14:40 Chester - Homeserve Dee Stakes
Aidan O'Brien has saddled six of the last nine winners of the Dee Stakes, which is off at 14:40 on Thursday, and the master of Ballydoyle will saddle the exciting STAR OF INDIA in the 2022 renewal, and the Irish raider is currently heading the betting for the Listed event. Currently a 50/1 shot for The Derby next month, the son of Galileo failed to fire when fifth behind Native Trail in the Craven Stakes at Newmarket, but the step up in trip here to 1m 2f 70y should see improve considerably, and on his third racecourse start the O'Brien-trained raider can enhance the stable's sensational record in the race. Cresta and Dubai Poet could prove to be the biggest danger, but Star Of India can show his class here and land the third race on the card.

15:10 Chester - tote.co.uk Proud To Support Chester Racecourse Ormonde Stakes
Some battle-hardened staying types feature in the Ormonde Stakes at 15:10 and the hugely consistent Ralph Beckett-trained Albaflora is sure to attract significant attention for this Group 3 event over 1m 5f 84y, but the standout performer that can bound to victory is Roger Varian's BELIEVE IN LOVE. The mare will be in receipt of weight from her male counterparts and she was last seen finishing a fine short-head runner-up to Loving Dream in a Group 1 at Longchamp, so a repeat of that effort down in grade should see her on the vicinity. She's been handed a tough draw in stall ten, but over this marathon trip, Andrea Atzeni will have plenty of time to try and get a prominent position, and if she can show her best form on her comeback run then she can land the spoils. Able to cope with most conditions, Varian's charge holds entries in both the Yorkshire Cup and Hardwicke Stakes, so if she is going to be deemed a player in those events then she should claim the win here.
Believe In Love
15:40 Chester - Boodles Raindance Handicap
Andrew Balding and David Probert team up with GROUP ONE POWER for the 15:40 contest, and the five-year-old is an eye-catching double-figured price for what is a wide open renewal of the 1m 2f 70y event on day two of the May meeting. Placed a number of times last season off a mark in the high 80s and he takes his chance off 84 in this event, so if he can produce his best then he must stand a huge each-way chance. He was third on his last visit to Chester off a mark of 88, and while he needs to improve on his first start this season at Chelmsford, that outing should have blown the cobwebs off and he can duly make the frame at the very least here.
