Freewheelin Dylan could be a rather popular choice at the odds in this year's Grand National. Firstly, anyone who has any connection to a 'Dylan' is likely to back the horse, plus form-wise he has plenty in the book.
A winner of six of his 21 chase starts, the 10 year old has good starying form, most notably when springing a surprise in last years Irish Grand National finishing first at odds of 150/1. Rated 137 that day, he's up 10lbs in the handicap but he beat some good horses that day, including the likes of Run Wild Fred, Enjoy D'allen, Court Maid, Agusta Gold and Escaria Ten who all run here.
He was always doing enough that day to win by one and a quarter lengths and looked like he could get more than the three miles, five furlongs trip that day. The beaten second that day Run Wild Fred is a third of the price Freewheelin Dylan is for this year's Grand National and finished second in the National Hunt Chase last time out at the Cheltenham Festival.
The ten year old subsequently ran well finishing fourth at Punchestown in May off a mark of 145 and was nudged up a further pound in a the Midlands National Handicap Chase at Kilbeggan last summer.
He pulled up in his prep race over hurdles and he unseated his rider in his only other run this season in the Cross Country at Cheltenham's November meeting.
It'll be interesting to see what happens to his price in the lead up to the big race and that may hold some clues as to his chances.
