The weights have been released for the 2022 Randox Grand National, which is set to take place at Aintree racecourse on April 9, and there are 104 horses left in the world's greatest steeplechase...

Gordon Elliott's Cheltenham Gold Cup hope Galvin and recent Irish Gold Cup winner Conflated have been handed top weight of 11st 10lbs for the Grand National, as the Irish-trained raiders dominate the head of the handicap. Last year's emphatic winner Minella Times will face a much sterner test in this year's event and the Henry De Bromhead-trained star has been handed a weight of 11st 4lbs, while favourite alongside the aforementioned Galvin, Any Second Now has been allotted 11st 2lbs for trainer Ted Walsh.

Dual Grand National winner Tiger Roll could potentially bid to emulate the mighty Red Rum by winning three renewals of the event, and the Elliott-trained veteran has been given 11st 4lbs by the handicapper at a weights lunch on Tuesday afternoon.

Nine of the top ten horses in the handicap are trained in Ireland with only the Nicky Henderson-trained Chantry House (11st 3lbs) representing the British charge, but throughout the list of contenders there are some eye-catching contenders for what is set to be a thrilling showpiece event in a few weeks time.

Second in the Irish Grand National last season, Run Wild Fred then showed his class when bounding to victory in the Troytown Handicap Chase at Navan this season and Gordon Elliott's raider, who sits around the 20/1 mark, at the time of writing, has been allotted 11st 2lbs. Others of notable interest towards the head of the betting that are guaranteed a run include Escaria Ten (10st 9lbs), who was a fine third behind Galvin in the National Hunt Chase at last season's Cheltenham Festival, and Martin Brassil's Longhouse Poet (10st 12lbs), who was last seen bounding to victory over Franco De Port (11st 4lbs) in the Thyestes Chase.

Charlie Longsdon's Snow Leopardess has long been regarded as one of the premier challengers for Britain and the impressive Becher Chase winner tasted victory earlier this week at Exeter, but he will need a host of horses to come out of the Grand National in order to get a run. Handed 10st 3lbs by the handicapper, Snow Leopardess is currently sitting at number 57 in the list of horses, and with only 40 allowed to take their chance then the connections of the likeable grey will be praying for some scratchings.

It could be a similar story for the former Welsh Grand National winner Secret Reprieve, who sits at number 87 on the list on 9st 9lbs, so it's hugely unlikely that he will get a run, despite him sitting at 25/1 in the ante-post betting.

Farclas (10st 9lbs), Noble Yeats (10st 4lbs) and Burrows Saint (10st 13lbs) are another three prominent figures in the betting that could play notable roles in what is set to be a hugely competitive renewal of the sporting showpiece in early April.
