Chris Baker: Four bets at Sha Tin on Sunday morning
Addeybb put up a superb performance under Tom Marquand to land the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick yesterday. It looked for a moment like the Japanese star Danon Premium would sweep by, but the William Haggas-trained globetrotter found plenty inside the final furlong to score at the highest level for the second time. Marquand is set to return to the UK after next Saturday’s meeting, which features another couple of Group 1 contests.
Racing in Hong Kong continues behind closed doors and there’s a good card at Sha Tin on Sunday morning. I’ve picked out four bets so good luck if you decide to follow.
Sha Tin Tips
9.05 – Jordan Handicap (1m1f)
The consistent BLASTOISE has finished in the first three places in six of his nine starts this season with both career wins coming in that period. He has been placed twice over this course and distance and was a comfortable winner here over a slightly shorter trip back in November. That success came under jockey Zac Purton, who gets back on board today. This four-year-old gelding showed a good attitude to win at Happy Valley last time out and is well drawn for a prominent racer.
9.35 – Ho Man Tin Handicap (5f)
HEART CONQUERED is without a win in over a year but looks to have plenty in his favour today. He possesses plenty of speed and was headed inside the final 150 metres over this course and distance last time out. All five career wins have come over the minimum trip, and top jockey Joao Moreira is booked to ride for the first time.
10.10 – Hung Hom Handicap (7f)
BEAUTY SMILE is a fascinating contender on his Hong Kong debut having left Ger Lyons since finishing third (7/4 favourite) in a Leopardstown Group 3 race last October. He showed plenty of promise in his five starts in Ireland, winning a maiden and a Tipperary Listed race. He will have the advantage of a weight-for-age allowance and the booking of Joao Moreira.
10.45 – Austin Handicap (7f)
The feature race can go to SUPER STAR (NAP), who has finished in the first three places in all but two of his 11 career starts (all at this course). Five of those runs have resulted in wins with four of those coming over today’s seven-furlong distance. He’s a strong finisher over this trip and is entitled to have come on for a recent barrier trial after an uncharacteristically poor effort at the start of March.
