Horse Racing Tips: Hughes aiming for a Legendary Day at Sedgefield
There are five tracks hosting racing this Thursday, with the first race beginning at 1pm at Sedgefield and action taking place until the closer at Newcastle at 8pm. We have taken a look through the most popular and intriguing selections on our site from a range of the biggest names in the tipping game, with a deep dive on a few of them...
Yesterday we saw a shake up in the Cheltenham Odds after the action at Punchestown, but it would be surprising were anything running today to trouble odds compilers for The Festival in a few weeks time. There are still some good puzzles for punters and tipsters to solve though and a trio of horses have been given the nap vote by three different tipsters in the Naps competition.
Firstly, Brian Hughes rides Legendary Day at Sedgefield for Adrian Keatley and he looks primed for a big run in this contest. The handicapper has given him an excellent chance after handing a lenient looking mark now over obstacles judging by his flat performances. He has won over this course and distance in the past and with top jockey Hughes in the saddle, it is clear to see why he is so well fancied.
The biggest priced Nap of the day comes from Matt Polley of the Ipswich Star and he has plumped for Zoffany Portrait at 25/1 at the time of writing! He hasn't shown much on any of his four runs, two coming for new connections since a switch of stables, but this big step in distance could suit.
The other two horses that have received three Nap votes today are Hickory and Espion Du Chenet. Beginning with the first named, it is interesting to see Brigadier, currently second in the naps table, side with this favourite as his strongest fancy of the day. Hickory could hardly be in better form, coming here searching for a four timer, and a seven pound rise in the handicap doesn't look like it'll be enough to stop him. His Kempton handicap saunter showed him to be majorly progressive and expect him to add another W to his record.
Espion Du Chenet is set to carry 11'10 but will have 7lbs claimer Cian Quirke to aid him in a handicap chase at Thurles. Louise Lyons' chaser has been selected as the best bet by three pundits including Andrew Bladen who has led the competition in the past and now sits in fourth place. The case is obvious for this one as he is a course and distance winner and looks to have been aimed at this race as connections are applying first time cheekpieces.
HIs run last time at Leopardstown saw him finish in seventh at Leopardstown but his performance was probably better than the bare result so despite this being a relatively hot race, he has a cracking chance of giving Andrew Bladen and two other tipsters a winning nap at a nice price.
