Horse Racing Tips: Henderson Hot Pot Fancied at Huntingdon

There are some decent contests set to take place today across Britain and Ireland, with Doncaster, Huntingdon and Thurles hosting meetings that have seen Cheltenham Festival winners run there in the past. Lingfield also hosts a jumps card, while Newcastle brings the sole evening all-weather meetings. Here we take a deep dive into the Naps table, point you toward an intriguing stat after the success of Gary Moore at Ludlow yesterday, and outline the latest news in the world of racing...

Thursday's Most Popular Naps
Two horses have gained four votes as the Nap of the day today, with one at Huntingdon and another at Doncaster. Firstly, at Huntingdon JANGO BAIE will attempt to follow the Shishkin route in winning this race before winning the Supreme at Cheltenham, as that Seven Barrows inmate did in 2020. Nicky Henderson clearly loves to stretch his main Supreme hope a bit over this trip and with the horse's profile, he looks the one to beat for all that there are some talented rivals set to line up against him. He was perhaps fortunate Farren Glory came down at Aintree in the Formby Novices' Hurdle but he took the race well and of course is now a Grade 1 winner.
At Doncaster in the opener (12:55), JAGWAR is fancied by four experts to bounce back after a clattering mistake on handicap debut last time out cost him all chance. He limped home in fifth that day but before the mistake, the Grenall and Guerriero runner was closing and would surely have placed at the very least. Providing the JP runner can avoid any horrific mistakes here, he must be handicapped to win and with Jonjo JR in the plate he is the correct favourite.
Lastly, In the the 16:15 at Thurles, LOUGH NIGARA has attracted three votes as the best bet of the day including the vote of third placed The Irish Sun. The horse has got off lightly with just a pound rise in the weights for a good third last time out at Punchestown and should go close considering his unexposed profile.
Follow The Leaders
Spotlight remain the clear leader in the Naps table and today venture to the good card at Huntingdon for their best bet. Thankfully it is not in the same race as the most napped horse, rather the one afterwards and they are siding with URBAN SOLDIER for the up and coming combination of Harry Derham and Paul O'Brien in the 15:25. This horse used to be with Paul Nicholls and looked fairly ordinary if truth be told, but Derham is making a real name for himself with stable switchers and after a solid third on yard debut at Doncaster last time out he is almost certainly ahead of his mark. This is his second run after wind surgery too which can usually be taken as a positive.
West Country sit in second and the Racing Post outfit head north to Doncaster for their best bet of the day, opting to give DREAMING BLUE the Nap vote in the 13:30. Anthony Honeyball's charge is not the most consistent but did put in a career best over this C&D last season, so if the application of blinkers and the drop in trip does the trick and brings him back to that form he could be the one to beat. Finally, The Irish Sun still cling onto third place in the standings and their idea of the best bet is the 16:15 at Thurles, LOUGH NIGARA. This horse has the services of top five pound claimer Danny Gilligan for trainer Matthew Daly and on his Punchestown third last time out, with his lightly raced profile one would have to think just a one pound rise in the weights looks lenient. He should go close.
- Spotlight - Urban Soldier - 15:25 Huntingdon - P&L: £23.55
- West Country - Dreaming Blue - 13:30 Doncaster - P&L: £7.78
- The Irish Sun - Lough Nigara - 16:15 Thurles - P&L: £4.98

Racing News Round-Up
- Mullins Debutant Smashed Into Favouritism for Betfair - The feature race this weekend is the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury, and a Willie Mullins runner from France making his first appearance has been hammered into as short as 3/1 in places for glory when crossing the Irish Sea. OCASTLE DES MOTTES certainly looks the one to beat.
- Henderson Hopeful With Shishkin - Despite Galopin Des Champs' brilliant win at the Dublin Racing Festival, Nicky Henderson is insistent his enigmatic but talented chaser SHISHKIN has the ability to take the Gold Cup from the defending champion from Closutton. He is the shortest priced British runner antepost.
- Marine Team Blame The Ground - After being comprehensively beaten at odds-on, Barry Connell has laid the blame for MARINE NATIONALE'S Irish Arkle flop on the ground at Leopardstown. If the horse bounces back to his very best in the Arkle at Cheltenham on better ground, the current price of 5/2 could look a gift.
