Horse Racing Tips: Gosdens and Dettori to score on Wednesday
Six race meetings are set to take place on Wednesday with the action beginning at Salisbury at 13:30. Yarmouth and Beverley complete the afternoon fixtures, while a trio of fixtures kick off in the evening with Gowran, Ffos Las and Kempton. We preview all the action here and pick out some of the best bets from a host of racing writers and tipsters here...
There are some intriguing runners set to take their chance at Salisbury today, and by far the most fancied by the tipsters on our site is CLIMATE for the famous combination of John and Thady Gosden with Frankie Dettori in the saddle. The filly has been running in some hot contests this year, last time out finishing down the field at Haydock behind eventual Glorious Goodwood winner Sea La Rossa. Since that run she left Jessica Harrington to head to the Gosden yard and if the change has brought out some improvement she should make a bold bid today. Today's task is much less tough than last time out and in total seven pundits make her their best chance of a winner today. In the magnificent seven, the highest entrant in the naps competition is Glendale of the Scotsman, who is currently fifth in the leaderboard. Templegate has also gone for Climate as his nap and she is the Spotlight tip of the day, so we can expect the price to shorten throughout the day.
The next most popular nap selection with three picks is ELSALS, a Kevin Philippart De Foy gelding going for a hat trick of wins later on in the day at Ffos Las. Last time out he battled gamely to a short head success at Haydock under William Buick, seeing off Zulu Tracker in a pulsating finish. He runs in the 19:15 race at Ffos Las and this looks a fiendishly difficult four runner race with the quartet separated by a sole point in the betting, but Elsals could be the one who emerges as favourite as the day goes on and hopefully secures the victory. The three judges that are siding with him are Newsboy currently in sixth place, Whistler in eighth place and Ben Morgan in eleventh. Al three are showing a profit for the season at this stage.
Expert Eye is still streaking clear a la Frankel in The Guineas in this season's naps competition, with his profit of £46.61 nearly double the second placed entrant's total. By his lofty standards he is on a poor run with no winning naps in five so will be keen to arrest the slide today and has gone for MAGICAL MERLIN early in the card at Salisbury. The two year old Roger Charlton colt was fifth on racecourse debut at Newbury around two months ago, but was sent off a 33/1 chance that day and outran those odds with an encouraging performance. As can be expected from a debutant he looked to be learning on the job for the first half of the race but knuckled down and was quite eye-catching from two furlongs out considering this was his debut effort. The son of Kodiac should be much better for that experience and is fancied to shed his maiden tag at the second time of asking under top jockey Andrea Atzeni.
Two runners have received a double figure numbers of tips today, with SEEKING GOLD in the 14:20 at Yarmouth for Tom Clover and Jack Mitchell. The favourite looks to have a strong chance of backing up his latest effort and has eleven tips, while SAXON SCENE in the 17:30 at Ffos Las has ten tips and is a leading fancy to break his maiden after a good second placed finish last time out. The biggest priced tip of the day is ORIENTAL BEAUTY in the 18:40 at Ffos Las at 20/1, while the longest shot of a nap is TILSWORTH VALERIE in the 13:50 at Yarmouth at 33/1.
