ITV Racing Tips: Saturday's best bets from Newmarket, Ascot and Redcar
There may be some stunning action at Longchamp over the weekend with the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe lighting up France, but there's some competitive action on home soil and ITV head to three fixtures on Saturday, with the cameras showing racing from Newmarket, Ascot and Redcar. We pick out some of the most eye-catching best bets from those three meetings and pick out some of the top tips from a host of racing writers...
The Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes is the feature race of the day as top-class action heads to Newmarket with the fillies and mares bidding for glory in the prestigious event at 14:42, as Jane Chapple-Hyam's Saffron Beach will attempt to retain the crown she won 12 months ago. The multiple Group winner is a red-hot 11/8 favourite for the event and is the nap of the day for Glendale from The Scotsman. Taking on that raider will be the Dermot Weld-trained Irish 1000 Guineas heroine Homeless Songs, who is looking to bounce back from a shock defeat in the Matron Stakes last time out, and the Rosewall House inmate is a 9/4 shot and is the best bet of Fortunatus from the Sheffield Star.
Martyn Meade's Cresta was a Listed winner last time out at Windsor and will attempt to follow that up with a win in the Group 3 Cumberland Lodge at Ascot at 14:25, and that 5/1 chance has been napped by both Whistler from the Sunday Telegraph and Rob Wright from The Times, while taking on that raider will be Newsboy from the Daily Mirror, who has napped the 8/1 shot Get Shirty, who is a lively contender for glory.
The Bengough Stakes at 15:00 at Ascot is another Group 3 for punters to enjoy and the classy speedster Rohaan will look to follow up his Royal Ascot win from earlier in the season, and that 3/1 chance is the best bet of RP Ratings from the Racing Post, while Chris Wright from the Liverpool Echo is backing the red-hot handicapper Commanche Falls, who is available at 5/1, at the time of writing and is another leading contender for victory.
Undoubtedly, the most popular race amongst our racing tipsters is the Challenge Cup Handicap at Ascot at 15:36, as a bumper field will head to the 7f start for a hugely competitive event and several horses have been napped for the event. Garry Owen from the Daily Record, who sits second in the naps table with a profit of £42.33 has napped the 14/1 Godolphin raider SIlent Film, who could be a lively each-way contender, while the sixth placed Ian Gaughran from the Irish Herald has napped the 16/1 outsider Boardman.
Rory Delargy from The Irish Field has gone down the way of Rhoscolyn, who has some excellent form at this sort of level and at 11/1 could be in with a chance, while the 12/1 chance Blue For You has been napped by both the myracing tipster and Ben Morgan from Racing Ahead, who fancy that raider to go close in a thriller.
Heading over to Redcar, the Two-Year-Old Trophy is the feature race at 15:21 and Rockavon from the Sunday Mail is backing the well-fancied 11/2 Barefoot Angel, who has to be a major player if producing her best, while Farringdon from the Morning Star, who sits towards the bottom of the naps table has taken a chance with the 11/1 chance Washington Heights in another difficult conundrum for punters.
