13:30 Haydock - Great Standish Handicap

Giorgio Visari could be very interesting in this running off a mark of just 53 based on his time with Aidan O’Brien and he ran with promise last time over further. I was just more drawn to another in the race in the end however and that’s MACHO PRIDE. A campaign on the all weather saw his mark tumble from 78 to 67 which sets him up nicely for a return to turf and a track he won at last season off a mark of 75. Ben Haslam is firing from all cylinders at the moment and this month is on a 27% win rate with his flat horses (three wins from 11 runners) including a 100/1 winner. It’s always interesting when he books Harry Russell, who he’s booked eight times over the last five years for two winners and this season they are one winner from two rides when combining.

13:50 Sandown - bet365 Novices' Championship Final Handicap Hurdle

This track should suit BOOMBAWN down to the ground. A front runner who takes ground out of his opponent’s at every hurdle and is arriving here full of confidence after two easy wins, the first of which was boostied handsomely by Parliament Hill who won easily next time out. Jack Andrews rode him last time when easily beating reopposing rival Hasty Parisian last time and it’s baffling the two are so close in the betting this time on the back of that. All his best runs are on good ground also and looks set to make a bold bid in this

15:15 Haydock - Great Haigh Handicap

CLOCH NUA was a short price to win on handicap debut last time but pulled his chance away and ended up going down by two lengths in 5th. Gets the aid of a hood here today which could help settle him down and also gets the top claimer Benoit De La Sayette on board, a jockey with a 40% win rate for the yard and a 23% career win rate and a 26% win rate when riding in handicaps.

15:45 Haydock - Lathom Handicap

David O’Meara has a good eye for ex French horses and tends to do well with them. DARKNESS came off the back of a 286 day break to debut for him in the Lincoln. Not an ideal prep but wasn’t ideally placed and was beaten seven lengths. Last time at Nottingham was much better where he was leading until approaching the furlong marker and just weakened close home in a four length 4th. Gets a visor for help today and should give a proper account of himself now the yard are getting to grips with him. FLASHING GLANCE is one of the most exposed in this but he’s very useful and is a proven performer off this handicap mark. Has won off 2lbs higher and both recent wins were off just 1 and 2lbs lower. Best form on this ground and won for this conditional jockey last time out, a jockey who has a 33% win rate when riding for the yard after four winners from 12 rides
