ITV Racing Tips: RaceOlly's Selections for Saturday's Races on Epsom Derby Day

Our resident tipster RaceOlly has turned his attentions to the star-studded card at Epsom Downs and has picked out his best bets for what should be a spectacular day's racing on Derby day...

14:00 Epsom - Cazoo Handicap

OH HERBERTS REIGN has been running like a step up in trip would be ideal lately and gets that opportunity here. Rain scheduled to fall will be of no inconvenience to him with handicap runs with soft in the ground description reading 112, the 2nd coming when caught right on the line and beaten a nose at Haydock. Good draw in 1 for this prominent racer and Richard Hannon has a 21% win rate when booking James Doyle.

14:35 Epsom - Princess Elizabeth Stakes

It’s worth taking a chance on ROMAN MIST here who is the most exposed, but has ran to a very decent level already including when winning a Listed race last time beaten Potapova in a battling finish. Meets that rival on the same terms here but is twice the price. Ran well both starts on soft ground to date, the first when 2nd and the latest when beaten a length and half in France in a Listed race. Tom Ward and Richard Kingscote have a 23% win rate when combining.

15:45 - Simpex Express 'Dash' Handicap

EQUALITY is a tricky one and might be better off backed when the race is off and breaking on terms. Worth a risk that he doesn’t blow it at the start at the price as he’s capable of smart form and looked good when easily winning at Windsor on seasonal debut, that was on ground with soft in the description and likely to get similar conditions here. Charles Hills has a 50% win rate when booking Jack Mitchell and this the first time they’ve combined this year.

17:15 Epsom - World Pool Northern Dancer Handicap

Four-year-olds have won 13 of the last 19 renewals and the last four and FARHAN is a very interesting contender. Ran too bad to be true last time when 11/8 fav at Hamilton, but if you scratch that he’s hugely overpriced. Form with soft in the description reads 1221 and the dud run last time when 5th. Very good seasonal debut on the all weather off this mark and looked very capable of winning off this kind of mark when winning the November handicap off 6lbs lower. That win was the only time Hollie Doyle rode him last year taking her record when riding for the yard this year is currently at a 50% win rate.

17:50 Epsom - JRA Tokyo Trophy Handicap

This is a interesting race and one that left me with a shortlist of two. Night On Earth and MR WAGYU were the two and after a bit of back and forth I’ve opted for the latter. This is his time of year as he comes to life in June winning seven of his 14 starts to date in this month and placing multiple times along the way. Also won multiple times on ground with soft in the description and placed off 5lbs higher in the Ayr Gold Cup last year and very likely tuned up to go very close in this. Yard has a 20% win rate at Epsom over the last five years and always worth watching when having a runner here.
