Last seen finishing third in the Group 1 Prix Jacques Le Marois at Deauville, Light Infantry will be hoping a drop down in grade can prove fruitful and David Simcock's charge is a warm order for the Group 3 Superior Mile at 13:50. However, there's a fascinating rival in the shape of CHINDIT, who on his day is more than capable of landing this prize and he will be looking to bounce back from a third placed finish in the Hungerford Stakes at Newbury. A former Group 2 winner, Richard Hannon's charge has been a real yardstick in the one mile Group division and if he can get in a rhythm out in front then he could be tough to catch and is the value play in a competitive-looking event.

George Boughey's SPANGLED MAC was last seen storming to victory at Newbury and the flourishing four-year-old will look to defy a 3lbs rise in the handicap and storm to victory in the bet365 Handicap at Ascot at 14:35. He finished mid-division on his last trip to Ascot, where he was 13th in the International Stakes, but having improved on that effort at Newbury he looks more than capable of going in again and with William Buick in the saddle he looks the most solid option. In such a competitive betting heat there will be a host of leading contenders with the likes of Quinault, Hickory and Popmaster all looking dangers, but it's Spangled Mac that makes most appeal.

Andrew Balding's AZTEC EMPIRE was just touched off at York last time out, but the four-year-old son of Sea The Stars can go one better at Haydock on Saturday afternoon at 15:00 by claiming victory in the Old Borough Cup Handicap. Handed a 3lbs rise for that runner-up finish behind Forza Orta, Aztec Empire pulled two lengths clear of the third placed performer that day, so he shaped like he could definitely be ahead of the handicapper and he can bound to glory in this event. Forza Orta will aim to frank that form here, but is worse off at the weights, while the likes of Post Impressionist and Caius Chorister add depth to the event, but it's Aztec Empire that looks to have the most progressive profile.

Derby hero Auguste Rodin and Royal Ascot winner King Of Steel will do battle once again in the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown at 15:20, but both were beaten last time out in the King George and it could be worth taking the three-year-old pair on with another from the Classic generation and that is AL RIFFA, who looks over-priced for Joseph O'Brien. A former winner of the Group 1 National Stakes, Al Riffa was last seen finishing runner-up to top French middle distance performer Ace Impact in a French Group 2 and that is top-class form ahead of this event. He should relish the 1m 2f trip for this event and he could offer significant value against the favourites, who may just find it tough to outclass their rivals over ten furlongs.
