ITV Racing Tips: Four bets for day two of Chester's May meeting on Thursday

We pick out our Chester tips for day two of the May meeting, which takes place in front of the ITV racing cameras on Thursday afternoon and the likes of the Dee Stakes and Ormonde Stakes will be two of the feature events on the card. Our man Steve Chambers turns his attentions to the Roodee and picks out his best bets of the day...

13:30 Chester - CAA Stellar Handicap

Andrew Balding's KING'S LYNN has been a real top class Group sprinter on his day and it's fascinating to see the five-year-old drop down to handicap company for the opening contest on Thursday afternoon at 13:30. A fine winner of the Group 2 Temple Stakes at Haydock Park back in May, the six-year-old, owned by Hm The King & Hm The Queen Consort, is a real top notch sprinter on his day and could be looking to use this as a springboard to next month's King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot.

He's been out of form of late and failed to land any sort of blow when last of eight in heavy ground at Doncaster last month, but this is much easier and he has shown he can act on the track having finished second during the 2021 campaign. He will have to give at least 8lbs to all his rivals here, and the likes of Lihou and Look Out Louis are notable rivals, but Balding's charge is the class act in this race and if he can shown anything like his best form then he can storm to glory.

14:05 Chester - Deepbridge Capital Handicap

There's a trappy betting heat at 14:05 with another Andrew Balding runner well fancied in the shape of Vetiver, who is currently heading the betting, at the time of writing and is bidding for a third win in a row. However, there could be some more attractive value further down the market and the one that stands out is the Ralph Beckett-trained PROMOTER, who drops back to handicap company today and looks interesting.

Drawn in stall 1, which is a huge positive, Promoter was last seen struggling to land any sort of blow in the Horris Hill Stakes at Newbury, but while that Group 3 event was a little too much last season, he embarks on a three-year-old campaign off an initial mark of 90 and he had previously been supremely impressive at Chepstow when breaking his maiden tag. He will need to improve from that outing, but this is a wide open contest and he looks like he could have the capabilities off his mark and if he can maintain a strong position from the start then can bound to glory.

14:40 Chester - Boodles Dee Stakes

Some potential Derby clues could emerge from the Dee Stakes at 14:40 and the likes of Donnacha O'Brien's hot favourite Alder and Aidan O'Brien's San Antonio both hold notable Derby entries for Epsom in a few weeks and they will be looking to book their place in the Classic with a win here. Both are leading players here, but the one to go to battle with is Charlie Appleby's LOCAL DYNASTY, who makes his seasonal reappearance.

The son of Dubawi doesn't hold an entry for the Derby, but he showed when winning at Sandown and Pontefract at the back end of last season that he is a classy performer and the latter of those wins came in Listed company, so he has already shown a high level of form in his juvenile campaign. He will have the burden of a 3lb penalty to carry here for that success at Ponte, but he is likely to continue on an upward curve this season and he can duly take victory in this contest for what should be a competitive renewal.

15:45 Chester - TMT Group Handicap

Richard Hannon's THUNDER MAX is yet to taste victory since winning on debut, but he showed huge promise when returning to the track after a year off when finishing fourth at Haydock Park a couple of weeks ago and the four-year-old can bounce back to winning ways here, if he's able to build on that effort. 

He remains on a mark of 80 for this event and the Hannon team reach for the blinkers today, which could bring some improvement, but he's sure to improve significantly for his first run for a year and while the likes of City Streak and Dream Harder are notable rivals here it's Thunder Max that can conclude our bets with a winning one.
