Having finished in the first three places in 12 of her 15 starts (including 5 out of 6 on turf), YUKON MISSION (NAP – 1 point win bet at 4/1) deserves to get her head in front and record a first career success. John Quinn’s four-year-old filly has filled the runner up spot in each of her last three races and in four of her last five. Her effort last time out at Catterick, which was just her second start over the minimum trip, saw her beaten by just ¾-length, and connections have decided to keep her over five furlongs today.
With its stiff uphill finish, horses often need proven stamina over further to go well at Carlisle, and this test could be ideal for her given that she twice ran well over six furlongs at Hamilton recently. Well suited by ease underfoot, conditions look set to be ideal for this prominent racer and although this represents a step up in class, she is nicely weighted off 9-4 and is back against her own sex. Jockey Jason Hart knows her well and gets back on board.
The biggest danger is the top weight Shepherds Way, who is the mount of Paul Mulrennan. She is entitled to have come on for her recent reappearance and should appreciate the return to softer ground.
