Today's Horse Racing Tips: A Plus Tard to outclass Betfair Chase rivals
It was great to end a losing run with a 7/1 winner at Ascot yesterday. Pink Legend made a fine seasonal reappearance and is an exciting chaser to follow. I’d expect her to be even better going left-handed on ground with more ease in it.
There is just one bet for today’s racing at Haydock.
Haydock Tip
15:00 – 3m1½f Betfair Chase (Grade 1)
All eyes will be on Bristol De Mai as he bids to win this race for a fourth time, but I cannot see past the Henry De Bromhead-trained A PLUS TARD (NAP – 2 point win bet at 5/4), who is sent across from Ireland to contest this prestigious Grade 1. I wouldn’t normally entertain a horse at such a short price but the form of his three runs last year stands out. A close second over an inadequate trip on his seasonal reappearance, he went on to win the Grade 1 Savills Chase at Leopardstown before finishing a fine second in the Gold Cup back in March. Those efforts built on a string of good performances in previous years, including a 16-length success at the 2019 Cheltenham Festival and a close third in the 2020 Ryanair Chase. Strong at the finish, stamina is clearly one of his best assets and at just seven years old, he remains a very exciting prospect. The excellent Rachael Blackmore knows him well and takes the ride again. If there is to be an upset, it could be caused by Imperial Aura, who has plenty of ability and looks set for a big season.
