Today's Horse Racing Tips: Refuge to strike at Nottingham
There is just one bet for today’s racing at Nottingham.
Nottingham Tip
15:55 – 5f Farewell And Thank You Steve Jeffries Handicap (Class 6)
The drop back to the minimum trip should suit REFUGE (NAP – 1 point win bet at 11/2), who weakened to finish fourth over six furlongs at this course last time out (sent off as the 11/8 favourite). He now lines up off the same handicap mark of 59, which is just 1lb higher than when he was beaten by a neck at Ripon last month and when he finished second over this course and distance on his seasonal reappearance.
His only win to date came on soft ground at Musselburgh last season, but he does handle a quicker surface and should find today’s conditions ideal. Rob Hornby takes over in the saddle, the combination of tongue-tie and visor is retained and his draw in stall 8 looks advantageous based on the statistics.
Having made just nine previous starts on turf and being out of a Listed winning mare, this four-year-old remains open to further improvement and is the one to beat.
Harrogate had been in good form prior to his heavy defeat at Ripon last time out, and he rates as the biggest danger.
