Today's Horse Racing Tips: George to score at Pontefract

Yesterday’s NAP, Madame Ambassador (advised at 13/2), was weak in the market but won in good style at Nottingham (10/1 SP). Mark Johnston’s juvenile appreciated the step up to a mile and will improve again as she goes further. After the race, William Buick talked about her as a potential mile-and-a-half filly for next season. As a beautifully bred individual, she is definitely one for the notebook/tracker!
There is one bet for today’s racing at Pontefract.
Pontefract Tip
16:20 – 1m Bet With Jayne – Your Local Bookmaker Handicap (Class 5)
Trainer Brian Ellison won this race in 2018 and jockey Cam Hardie won it a year later. The pair team up today with HARRY GEORGE (NAP – 1 point win bet at 11/2), who is entitled to have come on from his seasonal reappearance in a higher grade at Newcastle 40 days ago.
This horse doesn’t come without doubts – he missed 2017 and 2019, has had several wind operations and burst a blood vessel on his final start of last season. However, he is clearly talented and boasts an overall record of six wins from just 15 starts, including 2-4 on turf. As a result of his physical issues, he is lightly-raced for a seven-year-old and most of today’s opposition are either exposed, out of form or inconsistent.
Given that he stays a bit further than today’s one mile trip, the stiff uphill finish at Pontefract could suit him. Indeed, he was placed third on his only previous visit here just over a year ago. He remains fairly handicapped off a mark of 71, which is just 1lb higher than for his last win. If any of the forecast showers materialise, his chances wouldn’t be harmed as that rain would take any sting out of the drying ground.
Lasting Legacy, a recent winner at Redcar and now sporting a hood for the first time, is the biggest danger.
