Palavecino has obvious claims and looks a worthy favourite for this Class 2 contest. He has regularly competed in a higher grade, won at Lingfield last time out and has an impressive overall record in handicaps. However, he has to give plenty of weight away to his rivals today and an each-way chance is taken on the outsider FAIR STAR (NAP – 0.5 point each-way bet at 16/1). Given a break since pulling up on his hurdling debut at Market Rasen in October, Brian Ellison’s six-year-old now returns to the All Weather, on which he has impressive form figures of 112223. The majority of those runs (and both wins) have come here at Wolverhampton so he is clearly well suited by the Tapeta surface and nature of the track. He is 1lb lower than for his 1.5-length defeat here in September and although this represents a step up in class, he will race off a weight of just 8-5. Cam Hardie, who has ridden plenty of winners at Wolverhampton, is booked to ride for the first time.
