When is the Grand National?
All eyes will head to Aintree for the 2022 Randox Grand National as Rachael Blackmore will attempt to retain the world's greatest steeplechase and she's likely to be on board last year's winner Minella Times for trainer Henry De Bromhead. However, there's set to be a hugely competitive field line up for the Merseyside marathon, which will take place on Saturday 9th April at 17:15.
A stunning six-and-a-half length winner of the 2021 Grand National, Minella Times will face a tougher test this time around in the 4m 2f 74y contest, and there's set to be a strong Irish contingent heading to Aintree to try and land the coveted prize on the final day of the Liverpool track's three-day meeting.
Delta Work outbattled the legendary dual Grand National winner Tiger Roll in the Cross Country Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in mid-March, and the Gordon Elliott-trained former Grade 1 winner will be a leading player, while stablemate Escaria Ten is another prominent figure in the betting for the Elliott yard and has to be a major player.
Ted Walsh's Any Second Now was last seen beating Escaria Ten in the Bobbyjo Chase last time out and having finished a gallant third in last year's contest, the Walsh raider will look to improve on that finish in 2022, while other notable Irish-trained runners include Run Wild Fred, Farclas and Longhouse Poet.
Spearheading the British charge will be the improving staying chaser Snow Leopardess, who won the Becher Chase over the Aintree fences earlier in the year, while Colin Tizzard's Fiddlerontheroof and former Ladbrokes Trophy winner Cloth Cap add more depth to the home charge.
But, all will be revealed on April 9 when the sporting world stops to witness one of the finest spectacles in racing as a field of 40 horses line up for what is a spine-tingling event, which will see equine greatness rise to the fore, with only one star coming out on top.
