Cross Country Chase Tips: All eyes on the Tiger

This could be the final race in the career of dual Grand National winner Tiger Roll. Will he bow out with his fourth victory in the Cross Country Chase?
16 have been declared for the 3 mile 6 furlong Glenfarclas Chase but the standout runner is no doubt Tiger Roll who, having been ruled out of the Grand National, could be in line for retirement following today’s Cheltenham assignment.
Now 12 years old, the Gordon Elliott trained gelding has already earned his connections well over £1 million in prize money and himself legendary status as one of the most successful horses at both the Cheltenham Festival and Grand National.
After winning the Triumph Hurdle in 2014 and the National Hunt Chase in 2017, Tiger Roll really made his name when he switched to the Cross Country fences winning this race in 2018, 2019 and 2021 along with a second place finish in 2020.
His two wins in the Grand National came in 2018 and 2019 but his owners have preferred to focus on this race as he reaches the twilight of his career. He’ll no doubt be the most popular winner of the week if he succeeds and the market and tipsters are certainly expecting that to happen.
Tiger Roll is the selection of 9 tipsters including Templegate, Newsboy and Rob Wright and he holds the highest Racing Post Rating in the race.

Delta Work is the next most popular selection with 3 tips. The Gigginstown second string is tackling the Cross Country fences for the first time but has the class to win this if his jumping holds up. Other horses with at least one tip are Back On The Lash, Midnight Maestro, Prengarde, Shady Operator, Step Back and Tout Est Permis.
But this race is all about Tiger Roll. If he is at his best he'll surely be in the winners enclosure on Wednesday afternoon and that may be the perfect place for his glittering career to end.
