Epsom Derby Date: When will the 2022 Classic take place?

One of the summer sporting highlights, the Derby has become of the must-see events and has a history littered with memorable, sensational winners of the fourth Classic of the season, as the next crop of three-year-olds attempt to etch their names alongside the likes of Shergar, Nijinsky, Galileo and most recently Adayar, who claimed glory for Charlie Appleby and Adam Kirby in 2021.

First run in 1780, the uniqueness of the Derby around the idiosyncratic Epsom Downs has tested a horse's ability to deal with the camber in the closing stages, and an end-to-end gallop over the mile-and-a-half trip has tested the thoroughbred's ability, and on June 4th at 16:30 a new name will be etched on the roll of honour.

Aidan O'Brien has trained the winner of the race a staggering eight times and he is sure to have a strong battalion lining up for the event and the likes of Luxembourg, Changingoftheguard and Star Of India could be just three of the Ballydoyle contenders bidding for glory, while his son Donnacha could have a leading contender in the shape of Piz Badile, who also sits prominently in the betting.

This year's event looks extremely wide open as a number of entries have failed to show they are top class Group 1 company yet, so there would be no surprise to see a shock winner of the event, but one thing is for sure the spectacle that is the world's greatest Flat race is sure to attract huge attention on June 4, and you must watch the exhilarating Group 1 feature.
