Horse Racing Tips: Naps Table leaders both taking big priced swings
It's Eclipse Eve as a new month begins and racing fans up and down the country will be getting excited for tomorrow's stacked Sandown card, climaxing with the famous old Group One race over ten furlongs. Before all that though, there is another good day's racing to get through with action from seven tracks, including Sandown as they warm up for tomorrow.
We have scoured our site and picked out a few selections from the experts worth a second look who could kick off the weekend in the perfect way; with winners!
The most napped horse today is JAWWAAL in the 15:20 contest up at Doncaster, with five of the contestants putting faith in Michael Dods' runner in this sprint contest. Conor Beasley is booked to take the ride. On the surface his last effort looks seriously disappointing back at this track, finishing last of seven in a Class 3 handicap. Today's race is Class 2 so his odds would seem perplexing, however he in fact only finished two and a half lengths back that day in a bunched finish and after racing freely this effort can be marked up. He has once again seen his mark plummet before today's contest and could be weighted for success. This three time course and distance winner secured two of those wins around this time last year and with five of the presspack backing him to make it four Doncaster wins over five furlongs he is worth backing today.
Two runners have received three naps votes apiece, the first being Coltrane in the 14:20 at Sandown. Andrew Balding's stayer was a fantastic Royal Ascot winner just seventeen days ago and if that performance hasn't taken too much out of him he can back up in this contest today. The other horse with three votes as the best bet of the day is running in the previous race at 13:50 and is Rocket Rodney. He is odds-on in most places and after his brilliant neck second to Little Big Bear in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot it's easy to see why. A repeat of that performance will surely see him win this one as a strong favourite should.
It is not often that you see both the naps table leaders and the biggest priced naps section on our tipping homepage showing the same horse, with the usual strategy of those atop the leaderboard being to consolidate. However, today we see the runaway first and second Expert Eye and Melissa Jones taking swings at runners priced up at 20/1 and 25/1 respectively at the time of publication!
Expert Eye holds a slender advantage in the competition at present and his pick is YOSHIMI in the 13:35 at Doncaster. The angle for this one seems to be the hope that a change will be as good as a rest, as on his last performance he was fairly dreadful in finishing last of five at Newcastle. That was ten months ago, was over a longer trip and was for a different yard so it certainly cannot be said connections haven't tried something new to jig Yoshimi back to something like his best form. This five year old had some relatively smart form as a juvenile and arguably his best performance came when fresh at the start of his three year old campaign, beating King Of Tonga off a 215 day break back in April 2021. He seems to go well fresh then and is an interesting pick from the tipster showing the best profit and loss on our website.
The selection of second placed Melissa Jones is JIMMY BELL in the 16:13 at Newton Abbott. Seven pound claimer Ned Fox will aid this runner's quest for a first win since November 2020, indeed that was the only win of his career to date in a handicap hurdle at Hereford. Off twelve months prior to his last outing, a disappointing Huntingdon run over fences, this is a fairly big leap of faith to expect Jimmy Bell to have enough to win this race. However, it does not look a particularly strong contest and if John O'Shea has worked some magic then anything is possible.
