Saturday Horse Racing Tips: Raceolly's Best Bets On Grand National Day At Aintree

Our resident tipster Raceolly is back for his best bets on Grand National day, and you can check out all his selections for Saturday's racing here...
13:45 Aintree - EFT Construction Handicap Hurdle
BEAUPORT might have a fair bit of weight here, but horses towards the top of the handicap have a good record in this and despite a 6lbS rise after his last win there still looked room left for improvement. Six-year-olds have a good record in this winning it six times in the last 14 years and four of the last nine winners were rated at least 145, a further five were rated at least 137 so it pays to be at the top of the handicap. His 2nd in a Grade 3 handicap hurdle at Sandown behind Green Book worked out well and before that he ran a mighty race behind a well handicapped Dashel Drasher. Yet to be out of the top two since handicapping improving 26lbs and every one of them under today's jockey Jordon Nailor who once again claims the 3lb.

NORTH LODGE won his hurdle debut here at Aintree then followed that up with a Grade 2 hurdle win at Cheltenham. Beaten a short head in a Grade 2 at Kelso last time giving the winner 5lb and dropping back in trip. Back up to two-and-a-half miles here which he won the Grade 2 at Cheltenham over and skipped the Cheltenham Festival for this like the last two winners which is interesting. Five-year-olds have won nine of the last 17 runnings and Alan King has a 19% win rate this season when booking Adrian Heskin.

16:15 Aintree - Betway Handicap Chase
KILLER KANE has improved 11lb for the fitting of a tongue tie this year and could improve further yet on just his 6th chase start. Seven-year-olds have won the last two renewals and the Tizzards won this in 2017. 14 of the last 18 runners carried less than 11st 1lb and nine of the last 11 were rated between 131 and 140 and he ticks them boxes and also had won over three miles already this season and both wins over flat tracks. The Kempton win is working out very well, the four other horses that have ran since finishing behind him that day, threee have won and a 4th unseated when leading. That’s still his only run over three miles under rules and plenty of reasons to be hopeful of more improvement to come.

I was hoping Roi Mage would make the cut for this at a huge price, but with him missing out I’m left with a few shorties. Snow Leopardess has an obvious chance on this season form but is priced about right I feel. Although ANY SECOND NOW is a similar price he’s the best handicapped on last year's running where he was unlucky to only finish 3rd after being badly hampered. Ted Walsh knows how to get one ready for the Grand National and has once again laid Any Second Now out perfectly for this, competing in hurdle races to preserve his handicap mark before winning a Grade 3 chase. Won a Grade 2 chase over two miles before last year's renewal and a Grade 3 chase the year before that so has a touch of class when fit and ready to go and has waited a year to get retribution. Being a double figure age is no bad thing when it comes to the National with nine winners at least 10 years old over the last 19 years.
ECLAIR SURF creeps in off a low weight and is very well handicapped with both marathon runs lately taking huge boosts. Gericault Roque was the first to boost his form when finishing 2nd at the Cheltenham Festival narrowly going down by a late finisher in the Ultima, Eclair Surf beat him by 13 lengths in the Classic Chase at Warwick. He then went down by a length in the Eider at Newcastle behind Win My Wings who went on to easily win the Scottish Grand National off an 8lb higher mark. Runs in this off 143 despite official rating now being 147 and could very well be suited by the Grand National fences judging on jumping in those races.

HENRI THE SECOND might have had this as the plan since winning at Ascot beating one that ran a huge race for us in the Cheltenham Champion Bumper at the festival. Yard has won this for the last two runnings and last year with one that took the same route before winning this. Saddler Maker horses have a 23% win rate in bumpers after 19 winners from 83 runners and Paul Nicholls has a 38% win rate in bumpers at Aintree over the last five years.
