15:35 – 1m Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes (Group 1)
Two of my favourite fillies in training go head-to-head in this fantastic renewal of the Falmouth Stakes, and I’ll be having a bet on both given the prices available.
ALCOHOL FREE (1 point win bet at 7/2) beat three of these in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot last time and in doing so, put to bed the doubts about her ability to stay a mile. Having won the Group 3 Fred Darling Stakes on her seasonal reappearance, she finished a respectable fifth in the 1000 Guineas after being subject to plenty of market support. That experience of the neighbouring Rowley Mile course will stand her in good stead here as she looks to record back-to-back Group 1 victories. Her latest effort was really impressive and she will have no problem with the return to faster ground. She is very highly regarded by connections and Champion Jockey Oisin Murphy appears to get on very well with her.
PRETTY GORGEOUS (0.5 point win bet at 16/1) was sent off as the well backed 4/1 favourite for the Coronation Stakes won by Alcohol Free but could only finish fifth on the testing ground. Joseph O’Brien’s daughter of Lawman landed the Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket (Rowley Mile course) on her final start of last season, which built on promising runs in Group 2 and Group 3 company. As a result, she was sent off as favourite for the Irish 1000 Guineas in May but weakened as though she was in need of the run. Those two outings this year should have put her spot on for this and Shane Crosse is back on board after missing Ascot.
