Today's Racing Tips: Back this trio at Southwell and Wincanton on Thursday

There are three bets for today’s racing at Southwell and Wincanton.
Southwell Tips
15:30 – 6f Play Coral Racing-Super-Series For Free Handicap (Class 6)
The recent course and distance winner Salta Resta should go well again, but this looks a good opportunity for MARSH BENHAM (NAP - 1 point win bet at 5/2) to get off the mark at the tenth attempt. This son of Galileo Gold seems to have benefited from both the drop in to Class 6 company and going back down to six furlongs, finishing second in each of his last two starts at Kempton. Short headed last time out, he is ahead of the handicapper today and should be able to take up a good position from stall six given that I’m not expecting a frenetic early pace. Trainer Charlie Hills has his horses in good form having sent out four winners from just ten runners in the past fortnight, and jockey Kieran Shoemark is an impressive 3-3 when riding for Hills at Southwell.

16:00 – 1m4f Betway Handicap (Div I) (Class 6)
Jockey Richard Kingscote travels to Southwell for just one ride and it comes aboard the Ian Williams-trained DONYA (1 point win bet at 3/1). There doesn’t look to be an abundance of pace in this race so it may pay to be on one of the more prominent racers. I’m a big fan of Kingscote in such situations and he can get the sectionals right with this in-form filly. The step up to 1m4f has resulted in a third-place finish over this course and distance and then a win at Lingfield 19 days ago. Bred for this sort of trip, there should be more improvement to come off her revised mark. The hat-trick seeking Capricorn Prince is the obvious danger ahead of Rainbow’s Gift.

Wincanton Tip
16:10 – 3m1f Dick Hunt Handicap Chase (For The Dick Hunt Trophy) (Class 3)
The Paul Nicholls yard is having an unusually quiet spell of late but can celebrate a winner at Wincanton today with JEREMY PASS (1 point win bet at 10/3). Nicholls has a 28% strike rate at the course and has sent out 79 winners here in the past five seasons, including in this race two years ago. One of those 79 wins came courtesy of this horse, who won over hurdles here at the end of 2020. Second on his chasing debut at Chepstow in October, he then ran out a four-length winner at Ascot (4/5 favourite) before a close second at Taunton when last seen. He jumped really well that day and another bold performance from the front could make him very difficult to beat. Cheekpieces will be worn for the first time and the excellent Harry Cobden takes the ride.
