Wes Ward dreaming of Guineas bid with Campanelle

Wesley Ward has revealed that he’s seriously considering a tilt at next year’s 1000 Guineas with his star juvenile Campanelle.
The two-year-old has proven to be a revelation on her two starts in Europe so far this summer, winning the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot in really good style in June, before following up in the Group 1 Prix Morny at Deauville at the weekend.
And Ward has revealed that he’s still undecided about his next move with the filly, and he could send her for a potential date at Newmarket in next month’s Cheveley Park Stakes.
He told Nick Luck’s daily podcast: “We’ve nominated her for the Cheveley Park, so we’re going to take a look at that.
“She’s going to go to Chantilly from Deauville tomorrow, and then we’ll have a little time to think about things before we either come back to America and shoot for the Breeders’ Cup on her next start, or go to Newmarket.”

He added that plans were already well underway for next season, and Ward, who’s best known for his exploits at the Royal meeting, revealed that he was seriously considering a tilt at the first fillies’ classic of the season.
He said: “Well we’re going to look at the 1000 Guineas. I’ve been looking for a filly that could do it, or a colt, and this filly looks like she’s going to stretch a little bit.
“She’s a little different to the speedballs I’ve brought over in the past, and fortunately enough the owners have been giving me some horses that really look as if they can stretch out a bit - and this one in particular - I’m hoping she can get there next spring.
“This filly really looks like she’s going to be something.”
